Hi all,

So I was watching Charlie as he was on his play gym which faces out of our back door and it was like he was watching the wild birds on the bird feeder.

Do you think that our companion birds know what the birds are outside? Once the weather warms up I plan on sitting outside in the back yard with him.

I wanted to take a picture but he would not sit still by the time I got my phone to take one.

Very good topic. In the situation here my birds cannot see the wild birds unless they land on my balcony. Last spring a baby robin landed in my lawn chair on the balcony by mistake. It was just fledging I think. My birds were not even aware of it but my cat sure was. She loves to watch the birds flying. Last week we had a beautiful Coopers Hawk flying above. There is no mistaking their call. My kitty heard it but could not see it because of the height. Now is the time of year we should be hearing the geese flying south and their calls are so delightful to hear. So the answer to your wonderful question is my birds are just into eachother.

I don't have mine in front of the window anymore, after replacing a few blinds. They have all the entertainment they need, right in the house. I have considered moving them all into my dining room in front of a large window (without blinds), but I've just never done it. We have a larger cage ordered so that all 3 conures can go in it together, and I may put that cage there. They'll have to peek over the top of the bushes, though!

We have a couple of neighborhood cats that like to watch the birds too, and we also had a coopers hawk in our back yard the other day. Right now on the feeders we have sparrows, juncos, and we have a beautiful male and female cardinal. Thankfully both of Charlies play gyms are not near the windows with blinds and the sliding glass door has plastic inside the glass to give it a pattern so he and the wild birds cannot fly into it. I love this time of year when the birds start returning, pretty soon I will be able to get my hummingbird feeders back out

I've had Lady out on our indoor porch a few times and yes she has watched the outside birds hoping up and down and in and out of our willow bush. I don't recall her giving them undo attention as she was gladly enjoying the warm sun and taking a bath.

spiritbird, I too love hearing and seeing the geese overhead, they have been overhead quite a bit the last few weeks :). In the past early in the morning they (for an unknown reason to me) have even landed in our parking lot at work. What a delight it was to watch them.

Casper is totally disinterested, even when, in summer when his cage is out in the garden, if he is not actually in it, the sparrows nip in and pinch his food. :)

Luna loves it. We get all sorts of wild parrots here - mostly galahs and lorikeets. She has a stand at the window in my kitchen that she'll hang out at for hours (more so when she was young). I took this some weeks after we got her:

Sassy's cage is next the window in the bird room and yes, she does pay attention to any bird action going on outside, the cockatiels don't seem to have a clue, though. Amigo is VERY in tune with the birds outside. Some days he stays busy trying to keep the woodpeckers out of his tree..that's hilarious to watch! :). He's always on the lookout for hawks but the big buzzards are what really get his alarm system to go off! He doesn't mind the ravens. They are almost exactly his size and they have always been accepting of him in the territory.

Charlie watches the birds on the feeder, it might be because he is so young. I am ready for warmer weather to get him outside. Last night thought he did not like when the birds were on the TV ( I was watching Wild Hawaii on NatGeo) and he was scared when the hawks and owls were on the TV.

Mare, I am envious of Amigo, what freedom it must be to be outside and enjoy being a bird but yet also to be inside with his flock

Rosie doesn't enjoy watching wild birds outside. I just moved her java tree away from the window bc recently any movement outside has been met with alarm screams. We get a ton of Robins eating berries on our holly bushes, but Rosie doesn't seem to notice them. I think they are so cute with their big bellies. :)

Casper does watch out for the postie and gets very agitated as they come up the path. If he is on the floor when he hears the letters come through the letterbox on the front door he rushes into the hallway and attacks them. Its just like having a dog but without all the hairs and the need for walkies. :)

Kendra we have had robins, sparrows, purple finches and a redheaded woodpecker and a hairy woodpecker, and a pair of cardinals at the feeders. It was so nice outside yesterday that I sat in the backyard and watched them for a while, it was very relaxing. The only time Charlie seems to scream is when our dogs bark, or when he is ready to eat lol.

Charlie was out on the front porch with me yesterday and he would look at the birds up in the sky and then just sit there contentedly. I did learn however that he does not like bugs, a crane fly came by and his crest went up and he literally tried to hide in my hair, silly bird.

He is 4 months old today YAY!
