Types of Amazons

So, I'm interested in getting an amazon, but I have only had a cockateil and a gcc before, and I have heard amazons can be vicious during their hormonal periods. I have read up on some different types of amazons, but there isn't much out there comparing them to each other. Which amazons have the most even temperments? Which have the most freindly personalities, and which are the quietest ( relatively speaking!). Which have the easiest to deal with hormonal stages? Male vs female?
