Are your birds getting the Spring hormones stirred up? Oh boy Kobi and Tango are sure feeling it! He has been feeding her and grooming her excessively. Climbing into blankets. I really do not want baby Linnies because they would be first time parents and you know lots of things can go wrong. I just sold my spare cage. I still have the dummy eggs. If I put a nest box in the cage (which I have) she will for sure lay eggs and then I would have to destroy them. That is hard to do.
Can't say we're feeling Spring like yet. We had a major thunder and lightning storm last night tho, and get this a tornado watch on the east coast!!!!!!!!
The temps are getting a bit warmer but the garden is still cold looking :(.
Lady has dropped a few feathers the past few weeks but I can already see the new ones coming in.

As Salty is only 9 months old I am spared the whole hormone thing. This year. who knows by next year. So sorry to hear about the folks who died in the tornadoes. Those are some scary weather events, popping up anywhere.

Jazzy is only 9mo too. Yea it's really sad... It killed an old guy, his son, and a baby.

Thankfully Charlie is only 3 months old so I am not going to notice any hormones this year (I think, please correct me if I am wrong). But I have noticed he is not sleeping as much and is a little more active but that could just be him settling in, we will only have had him with us for 2 weeks this coming Monday.
I am very excited for Spring to arrive. I can't wait to grow our own fruits and veggies not only for us, but for Charlie as well. The temps here in Maryland have been crazy and we had some pretty bad storms a few nights ago, but thankfully nothing damaging. The days are getting longer and I am thankful for that.
All my birds definitely have the Spring Fever going on! We've had beautiful, high 70-low 80's, weather. The grass is growing and the wildflowers are popping, my favorite time of year :). I just hope the rainy weather isn't through with us, yet..we could always use more, here in California!

Oh boy yesterday Kobi was a mess. He was harassing Tango something fierce, trying to groom her with quite a bit of force and she was protesting. He was constantly feeding her too. I finally called in his "grandma", my neighbor and she has a way of settling him down. She says its a "grandma thing". He did settle and seem more calm today.
I just don't feel comfortable giving them as nest box and start an egg laying parade. What would you do in my place bird people?

What are your future plans for them? Do you want them to raise chicks? Will you switch out eggs for fakes?

I really do not want baby Linnies to deal with. I do have dummy eggs but that does not keep her from laying if the stimulus of a nest box is present. Plus there is my personal feeling of having to destroy an embryo.

I would struggle with that also. If it were me, I wouldn't put a nest box up. She may still lay, but at least you're not facilitating by having the nest box present.
I hope to never be in your shoes spiritbird I too am not interested in breeding. What do you think about putting them in separate cages for a bit? Here is more information from an article I was reading.

Two reasons I do not separate them. One is I just sold the spare cage and the other reason is because if they are apart for even one second they both scream very loudly and get stressed. The bond between them is so strong. Yesterday Kobi was much better. I guess the hormones come and go in their intensity.
That's is good information in the Link. Thanks for that. Next day Kobi displaying himself I will move the cage and see if that works.
