I have Netflix but will have to look for it. What is it about?
Couldn't have said it better, myself..
Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, is a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary following intrepid filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it.

I was vegan for 3 years of my life, and vegetarian for 6 and I have to say that documentary was watched by me several times. I would highly recommend.
My husband has been vegetarian for over 40yrs. Our youngest, 23, has been vegan since the 5th grade, our oldest, 34, has been vegetarian since she was a teen in high school and our middle child has bounced back and forth for years.
I LOVE the taste of meat and poultry and have a real hard time committing full time to becoming veg or vegan but after watching this documentary... I was walking through the market, today, I totally avoided the animal meat section. I'm trying to commit!

I mean, I have always loved loved the taste of meat, but that's not really why anyone becomes vegetarian or vegan, it's for the rights of the animals that cannot speak. I don't want to be one of THOSE vegans, but you have probably heard the saying.. " Why love your birds but eat a pig?" They have roughly the same intelligence, if not, the pigs have more.. it's a very hard thing to begin and keep up with but once you're 3 months in or so, it's a habit and it's easy. I can EASILY find several things at 99% of restaurants we go to and stores are even easier to find stuff in.
I definately am not trying to convince anyone to be vegan or vegetarian I'm just stating my opinion! (:

I read the promo but it does not interest me. Did you read or watch Forks over Knives? Or whatever it's called. I got through half of it. I eat little meat and cringe when I walk by those tanks with lobsters waiting for the fires of death. Do I eat lobster, yes if I don't see it living first. As a child my brother in law brought home squirrels he killed and we ate them. Now I would never do that. I am just all mixed up on this topic.
Mixed up is right, Dianne. Most of us were raised on animal protein..Sunday dinner was always a roast of sorts or a stew with chicken or beef..etc.. My kids were always influenced by Tim (hubs) and me being so stubborn against change, so they are mostly strong willed themselves :).
I know that vegan is the way to go, our animal agriculture practices leave me no doubt.

Your right Mare. Take chickens for example. We have all seen how they are treated and killed for human consumption. I try to buy organic because these chickens are not poisoned or mistreated. Gosh, they are so much more expensive. Any other labels on the chicken like "natural" really means nothing. Also "free range" means nothing. These chickens can be in a small pen and never see the light of day but because they are in a pen where they can walk a bit they can technically be called free range. My yoga instructor has her own chickens and they roam the property at day time but put in an enclosure at night for safety. They are true free range. She only has them for the eggs.
For whatever reason I can not see what you posted Mare, I have even switched browsers for this post. But from the thread I get it. It is difficult and I do love my veggies and do not appreciate what we have done to support our want for meat. I think the rabbit hole is so deep that even the veggies are in trouble. Seems we don't even put back the minerals and nutrients into the soil that we use to grow them. I use to think fish was the safest food as the oceans are vast but look what the gulf oil spill among many other things have done to our oceans, not to mention the Japan Fukushima nuclear plant meltdown. There are many documentaries that show how we as mankind have overstepped our boundaries and continue to due harm.

I haven't seen it. I am not sure I will be able to watch it. I will probably get too upset. When I was in college, I took an ethics course and we got a glimpse into animal treatment when raised for food. It was so horrible that I became a vegetarian for many years thereafter.
My main problem is I don't like fruits/veggies for the most part. I was probably the unhealthiest vegetarian EVER! I eventually started eating chicken and a little red meat again. Just bc my diet was so horrible.
Recently, I was diagnosed with severe anemia. Now I know why I have been an exhausted, forgetful mess. :) I have trouble digesting iron tablets so I keep trying different pills that hopefully won't make me sick. Hoping the newest Rx will do the trick. Since the pills are problematic, my doctors have recommended eating lots of red meat. Which I generally just don't like. So I started researching what other options there are diet wise. I have found that there are lots of food items that are not meat to help with iron levels. Which is awesome!
So, I have been thinking about going the vegetarian route again. Only this time the healthy way. I am so very uncomfortable thinking about where the meat on my dinner plate comes from. It is so horrible the way the poor animals are treated. :(
This documentary is not so much aimed at stopping animal consumption as it is about saving our planet. It truly is worth watching.
I spoke with my son about my blood work results, I'm deficient in vitamin D. He has pharmacology this semester and called me back, again and again, with questions about my diet..he's a freakin' vegan so sometimes I find it hard for him to relate but he can, he's learning amazing stuff!
There is lots of info out there, Kendra! I believe dark green veggies and beans are high in iron..
I usually make a smoothie in the morn, holds me over till lunch. I've been adding dark green kale, a few leaves, minus the center rib. Besides the color..it is delicious with apple, banana, blueberries, chia seeds, handful of walnuts and a scoop of vegan protein powder with a few sloshes of coconut water! De-lish!!

Funny, I had a beet smoothie this morning. Beets are supposed to be good for anemia. Beets, blueberries, apple, kale and orange. I forgot chia. Which I love, next time. :)
I didn't know that about beets! Makes sense, though. It's such a potent color and if you forgot what you ate or drank the night before, you'll be reminded in your morning potty :)
