View Full Version : Chain or rope?

I just put a plastic chain going from Salty's cage to his table side hanging perch. He climbs out 4 or 5 links but he's hesitant to go much more. Would a heavy rope be better ? He is very acrobatic usually, hanging by a toe while he rips up his hanging toy, so its not like he is hesitant like that.
Opinions, please.

I would suggest never using any sort of chain..plastic or otherwise. It only takes a split second for a slip and a broken toe.I have heard of many people losing their birds having found them tangled in a chain.A good tightly woven rope that they cant get caught up in is the safest way to go.

Rope is the way to go. Buy a length that works for not only the distance but the feet size :)

I agree with rope. Kobe has gotten his toes caught in a few things before that was unexpected. He really panics and makes it worse.

I'll have to post a pic of what I have set up. The chain is the really big links, like 1-1/4" long. 3697
The chain is mounted into screw eyes into the ceiling, going from the same mounting point as Salty's ring perch to a screw eye mounted into the ceiling just above his cage, so in theory he will be able to climb his way from his cage across the ceiling and to his table side ring perch. 3698.
I am not seeking opinions that only coincide with my own thoughts ( like some do), but I want to make all who offer opinions to understand what I am describing.
If its to be rope, I am thinking a big diameter, like 3/4" or larger. Readily available is polypropylene rope from the Home Depot. Hard to get would be a natural fibre rope, like sisal, in that big a diameter.

I would love to see a pic.

I don't think I can be of much help. I would use rope for Rosie mainly bc she would snap the chains with her beak pretty quickly.

I don't necessarily see anything wrong with chain per say, but I prefer rope. My birds love the colors in their rope. It's up to your personal preference. I like your little set up though. :)
