I have owned cockatiels for years. Out of my current cockatiels Nala is the youngest. She is approximetaly one year old. I got her at "9 months" but I believe she is older than one year. Since she never went through a one year molt. Anyways, her behaviour has been way off lately. This once nearly quiet cockatiel screams all day. It's worse when she can't see me but when she can still screams and paces back and forth. She is allowed out of her cage every day for the whole day. Yesterday she bit me on the leg. It's not normal for her. She was hand fed and a very sweet loving bird. Is this a sign of her being hormonal? It's very cold here and I thought they would go through a hormonal stage in the spring when it would be normal breeding conditions. My older cockatiel Emma had been extremely hormonal the last few weeks (bending down to mate, finding a place to nest, etc) this I think is do to the new male cockatiel in the house. Could Nala have picked it up from her? I haven't seen Nala trying to mate. I just don't know what else would be causing her weird behaviour.
