Hey all, I was wondering if you could suggest your favorite books on parrots and or parrot behavior. I plan on adopting a goffins cockatoo later this year and want to study as much as I can! Thanks!

Hi, Mcowell87! Welcome to PP! Parrots for Dummies helped me tremendously and still to this day has great stuff I visit it for. Where are you adopting the goffins from? Have you met him or her?

I love your art work. Is that the bird you are getting? I agree with Parrots for Dummies. Its a well rounded, general parrot book. Not specific to Cockatoos.

I have not met any goffins yet! I'm still reading about every parrot before I set my heart on any one animal. I also figure I'll go through a shelter and maybe they can point me in the right direction. And if nothing else I can check Craigslist lol.
I'm mainly researching everything I can now so I'm prepared for anthying. Just purchased dummies now thank you!!

I'm loving "parrot parenting" so far, it's a goldmine of general husbandry info and has a section devoted to detailing out different birds, their behaviors, lifespans, noise type and loudness, affection, and the pros and cons of keeping them each as pets. Thick hardcover book, it's like a textbook! Found mine on Amazon on the cheap.

Hello and :pp_welcome:

Sorry, I don't have a favorite book of parrot information, I just search the net to find information mostly.

Here's one on amazon...[Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]

Like Alice, I have found the most information on the internet. Forums are a great resource of information as well. :)

So I went with parrots for dummies and a very interesting looking book called "my parrot my friend"
It talks about parrot body language and behavior.
Thank you all so much for your jnput!

I found all my info online. I did see a white cockatoo at my store, she was so nice, you'd love one! They are too cute! Good luck in whatever you choose! I just have an amazon and severe macaw they are nice too. Cockatoos are so cute though. :) You can do it!

I haven't just yet! But it looks like I'm fast approaching to it being a reality.(which is why I'm back!) I moved into a much bigger space and I'm looking for the perfect bird still. I'm leaning towards a bronze wing pi or the goffins still, there is just a lot to think about and I don't make these decisions lightly.❤💖
I still don't know which bird to go with but hopefully I figure it out soon!

Welcome back. I can't wait to see which bird you end up adopting. What made you choose these two as potential candidates?

Nice to see you, I too was wondering what brought you to the final two candidates. Great choices they are. I am glad to see you are taking your time before deciding. You and your new friend will be much happier because you did. Keep us updated, would love to hear your final decision(with pictures).

Just saying, because I have a goffins, she is a challenge. She prefers my husband but will also change gears while doing 80 on the freeway! Errrrck!

Very cool, I had to go search out about the bronze wing pi. So far I like what I've read and seen too :). Now the search begins to see who has some that you can check out and maybe like you said even bring one home! :happy-feet:

I don't think I have ever seen a bronze-wing here, probably have better luck in the U.S. They are remarkable looking birds.
