Out of the birds you have owned which specie was your favorite and which was your least favorite? And why?

I've had budgies and cockatiels in the past, loved the cockatiels.

Currently I have the U2 who is determined to kill me, 4 lovebirds, and a parrotlet.

The lovebirds are clowns, very enjoyable to watch, and I love to listen to their constant chattering back and forth.

The parrotlet is the most personable of the bunch as far as I am concerned. She's sweet and snuggly, and loves to be with her human. She is my favorite.

I love the U2, but the feeling isn't mutual. He's hysterically funny, and has a huge personality. But he's definitely a one person bird, and that person is my husband. He would say the U2 is definitely his favorite, but then, he hasn't been mauled by him!

Really? I had always thought cockatoos were generally cuddly birds (from the videos I've seen). The big birds kind of scare me. Knowing what they are capable of. I feel like they could just grab my finger and snap it.
I'd say the worst bird I ever owned was a quaker. She would bite me and scream ALL day. The worst part was she knew how to let herself out so she could try to attack me again. Needless to say I rehomed her to someone who knew more about them and could handle her constant screeching. I bet your cockatoo can make quite the noise!
Sometimes my cockatiels chirping so loudly for hours everyday gives me a headache.

I have a U2, a goffins and two cockatiels. My fave is my U2, Amigo and this is only because he adores me, sorry Kim :). They are definitely one person birds and if you are their person there is nothing else like their undying, loyal, annoying love..he would kill for me!

Our Sassy goffins loves Tim, husband, and would rather not see me around, most days, but I admire her spunk and determination to try and rid me from her love's life :). She is a character!

The cockatiels are actually my favorite, (don't tell Amigo), they are just so darn CUTE! Sweet natured little ones, maybe that's what I like most about them :love_heart:

Just 6 budgies and a Zon here, I honestly can't really choose as I love them all, I consider em my little feathered kiddies. :P
Well okay I must admit my Zon is easier to relate to as he is pretty tame, but my budgies are pretty little cuties too.

There's a lot of cockatoos on here! The cockatiels are my favorite :) but then again I've never really owned a different bird. I have 2 budgies, 6 must make quite the chatter! My little two aren't tame unfortunatly. I thought about getting a green cheek but I don't think they are the right bird for me based on what I've read about them.
spiritbird maybe you can adopt an older bird?

I have only really had Rosie. So I will have to say GW. She loves me more than I can put in words and is funny, smart, sassy and ridiculous. She is my best buddy and the only living creature that can make me want to laugh and scream at the same time.

I've never known anyone who has a macaw either! I bet she can be pretty loud. Has she ever bit you? That would really hurt!

She is very loud. I have hearing loss from her screaming while sitting on my shoulder. I have since learned not to yell for the dogs or kids while she is on me, but the damage is done. :)

Rosie does not "bite" as a general rule. She did once, when her harness got wrapped around her wing. But that was because she was panicked. It did hurt, but didn't bleed.

Rosie pinches a lot. Which is annoying and uncomfortable, but not painful. She finds it very amusing. She will pinch for tons of reasons. Something scares her, someone comes near me, she wants my attention, I am trying to remove her from my body, I hit a sensitive spot while preening, etc. Her favorite reason for pinching seems to be for her amusement.

It seems to me that macaws know they are strong. So when they bite it is slow, grinding pressure. They aren't going for blood. You have time to remove their beak from your body before damage is done. The little beaks scare me. They seem to mean business and go for blood when they bite.

Wow! I don't know how you do it. I would go insane!
Pinching, hahah! She is like a child, you must have your hands full with her! She is very beautiful :) I always admired them since I was a little kid. That's what I knew as a "parrot". Every pirate in the movies had one!
There is one at our local pet shop who has been there for years. He's not for sale, he's the owners pet, but it's funny because you go up to the bird room and he sometimes climbs down and tilts his head at you and hangs off his cage. It's very amusing! Can't they live for about 80 years?
The cockatiels and parakeets definitely bite for pain. The cockatiels hurt quite a bit. I think a big part of it is they dont just bite, they latch on.
Is Rosie a good talker?

Least favorite parrot that I have owned was the Quaker that we had for a short period when my kids were little. At first he loved everybody and then by one by one he decided to not like each of my children then my wife I'm finally me . He would bite
everyone of us and scream all day long. We wind up rehoming him to a neighbor down the block and did not see him for several years and then at a block party she brought him out and he was a change bird, obviously she knew how to work with Quaker parrots. I suppose my favorite parrot is our current parrot, salty, he is the friendliest smartest and most cuddle some of a parrot I have owned. How nice is he? I really really miss hanging out with him all day after spending a weekend with him. Second favorite was my little bee bee parrot Max who we had for 15 years. Max was loud and he had a piercing call when he was throwing a tantrum. He was bossy. He was demanding. But Max would go to anybody and he loves scratches from everybody. I knew he was going to be my bird from the moment I met him at the pet shop. the pet shop owner took a bunch of these parrots and put them in a play area and Max walked over to me jumped on my hand look into my face and gave me a wolf whistle. max did not talk and only did a few really dumb tricks, but everyone in my family love him. He was the kind of parrot that you would take him out put him on your shoulder and you could take a nap and wake up with max nuzzles into the crook of your neck also sleeping. Everyone in the family was very upset when we opened hi cover in early September to find him laying on the floor of his cage, passed away. Have to stop for a bit to wipe my eyes..... salty is proving to be even more personable then max, tops and learns more words each week, he's learning new tricks almost everyday and is now friendly with everyone in the family. He is smarter then max ever was and I could not ask for a better behaved parrot. salty is an altogether excellent bird.

Yes, macaws are toddlers that never grow up. Not for everyone. Rosie can make me insane but she can also make me laugh like no one else. She has my heart. There is nothing like it when she puts her face in my face, cheeks blushing, head tilted, giving me a kiss or a cheek cuddle while saying Hello in a sweet voice.

No, she is not a great talker. She is more interested in getting the tones than the words. She does say Hello, Hi, PeekABoo, Apple, Up, BeepBeep, Is that good? and some others I can't remember. She works on I love you, I'm a good girl, good peekaboo baby, water, shower and some others. I can tell from the way she says it (tone) and context. But no one else would know. She also will say Peek and want me to say aBoo. If I say PeekA she will say Boo.

Well this a difficult question for me. I have had budgies, love birds, a hill mynah and an even a peach crested U2. I had a family member who use to pass around their Redheaded mexican amazon and enjoyed his company when it was my turn for his visit.
There is always the fun and good things and of course the not so good but I believe they all taught me a thing or two about birds as well as myself.

I must say that Lady is my favorite. She is the first bird that I get to have one on one time with. She is my constant companion and most of the time well behaved. My favorite part of our day is when I plate up dinner and she wants to taste whatever I have to share.

I think the blue masked lovebirds are so pretty, but I was watching videos of them and they make such a high pitch chirp, I think it would drive me insane. The bigger birds seem nice, but I'm afraid I will be getting myself into more than I'm looking for. All the behavioural problems they can develop. It's just that once I owned a quaker and she was horrible. It's made me nervous about getting another parrot, but I'd really like to.

I truly believe in the "let the bird pick you" saying..especially if you are thinking about looking into a larger companion bird. The bigger guys/gals also come with a bigger personality. Amigo was thrown in my lap, my first bird, him 8 yrs. old and it took a couple of years to work it all out..took some time but it finally worked and I wouldn't change a thing...now :)

Unfortunatly we only have chain pet stores and Craigslist. Which is usually my route for adopting a pet. That's a lot of work to start with a cockatoo! My first bird was planned to be a cockatiel, but petco didn't have any so I got two parakeets instead. Shortly after I got a cockatiel.

It was A LOT of work to begin being a brand new/first time bird owner with a re-homed 8 yr. old male Umbrella Cockatoo. What this experience did for me, though, is to give me a perspective on bringing a new bird into our lives, regardless of species. It takes commitment, a will to take care of this being..no matter what, good or bad, we work through it.

I love all my birds my budgies are harder to bond it's just in their nature. My Ruby she says hi, hello, what's up, and she could hear jazzy says step up from the other room so she learned to say that too. Ruby is pretty quite though, she can also be temperamental as sometimes she just wants to be alone but we all go through those things. As for jazzy she is like my daughter she wouldn't mind hanging on me all day. Jazzy says step up and reaches her leg to me it's so cute.

Ps. May I add Kendra you and Rosie are so cute and I mean that as a compliment. :)

Thanks Kristin. I will tell Rosie tomorrow when she wakes up. :)

You're so welcome. :) I bet it's
Different having a big mac, it takes a strong woman to handle em. I love em but I won't lie, near them I feel intrigued yet highly intimidated. :P I just wish hyacinth wasn't so rare they're so beautiful the blue ones hehe them yellow eyes.

I don't know any different. She is our first experience with parrots. She is a strong willed little thing, that is for sure. :)

Hys are beautiful and the ones I have met are super sweet. Their beaks make Rosie's look small. I once had a baby hy grab my finger and not want to let go. He was upset that I was leaving. That was no joke. No damage done but I got nervous for a few seconds there. :)

We have parakeets, and they are not friendly so I am not fond of them. They are content to be with eachother and have their food and water etc.

My favorite and my first bird (besides the parakeets) that we have is my LSC2 Charlie who is 3 months old. He is sweet, cuddly, funny and all around wonderful (although I am biased).

Parakeets are true flock birds.

I'm not good with the initials for the birds. But my parakeets don't much like human interactions either. They are very bonded to each other. They still like to come out of their cage, but they don't want to sit on your shoulder or have their neck pet.

I've only ever owned 2 birds; my Green Winged Macaws, so they're my favorite

If I were to ever choose a bird I would choose an Amazon; a Blue Front or a Double Yellow. I think they are so gorgeous.

LOL, "laugh and scream at the same time", yes, you're definitely talking about a GWM!
