Parrotlets as pets?

I was wondering what parrolets are like as pets?
I read online that they are nippy and become aggressive over time?
I just wanted to hear some personal experiences with owning them.
I like birds that are cuddly, like to be pet. With a playful factor, but not as nippy as a conure. I also read they are loud, but I don't know in what aspect the site was talking about. I have chattery parakeets and loud cockatiels. I had a quaker once and definitely don't want a bird that loud again. But my quaker was ear piercing. My cockatiels couldn't ever come close.

You are right about Quakers. I fostered one and the poor little guy was screaming night and day.

Sorry I have no experience with paralettes. Saw some at a show one time and they could be heard in the entire showroom.

It is definitely headache causing! Well, sounds like the parrolets are quite loud too then. I actually messaged a breeder and asked and they told me they are very loud compared to their other birds as well. I'm sure it's also worse with other birds in the house to chirp to.

Erm.. can I suggest ear defenders? Unless you enjoy the sound of birds being birds. :th_smile:

I have a parrotlet, but she's young, only about 3 months old. So far, she's much quieter than my lovebirds or the cockatiels I used to keep. She chatters constantly, but she's not used her ear drum shattering voice yet. I'm sure that will change as she matures.

Personality wise, I have to say she's my favorite of the birds we have now. She's a busy body, and yes, she will nip now and then, but I'm still in the process of taming her - she had very little human contact before I got her, she was raised in a large aviary with over 500 birds. A good friend of mine who keeps all types of parrots recommended a parrotlet to me. They have the attitude of the big boys/girls, but they are so tiny. Jasmine loves to snuggle against my neck.
