Stopped outside the door today before heading in and caught Itachi (7 week budgie) muttering something that sounded like "goober" to himself. As I've not yet referred to peanuts in this manner around him, I like to think that was an attempt at "Good Bird"!
Won't make a peep while I'm here, though. Maybe he wants to get it perfect before showing me, haha!
He's such a GOOD boy, just hardheaded.
I feel so lucky that he's adjusting and progressing so quickly.
The wing clip(a couple of y'all may remember he had some flight issues, taking off at high speed constantly and busting his poor cere) has helped immensely. He seems more confident, has started exploring his cage and playing with toys. He's also not so panicky about The Hand.
Now when in the cage, he gets on the finger the third try or so. Most of the time after a few seconds outside the cage he flutters away wanting to do his own thing, but if he goes somewhere he shouldn't be or undershoots his goal I either offer my hand midair and he lands or I offer it in front of where he ended up and he steps right up. He climbs up my arm and gets on my shoulder a lot.
But just last night I decided he really needed his trim evened out. I accidentally got three on one side and four on the other, and one side was a bit longer overall. So I caught him and towelled him and I didn't hold him tight, just held his little neck a bit loosely and finished the job. After I let him go, he stayed on my hand to recover! He then left for the cage, but I saw some pink and I was worried he was bleeding. He gave me QUITE the fuss to let me see his wing, but not avoiding me, just refusing to let me peel the wing up almost like a game. I then pinned him AGAIN to check and he was fine and I let him go, and he STILL stepped up to be put back. I was so scared that pinning him so much would make him lose his trust in me.
Oops, small essay on why I love my bird! Y'all forgive me, most people in my life are tired of hearing about it and don't appreciate how COOL all of this is!
Gratuitous photo of bird.
