Casper takes for ever to dry naturally after his shower and sometimes sits on top of his cage shivering even though it is right next to the central heating radiator. We used to put an infra red lamp on for him but the bulb failed so now we use a hair dryer which means we have to chase him around the cage because he thinks it is a game. It still takes for ever to get him dry though so, cold climate residents, how do you dry your birds?

Please don't use a hair dryer as that will dry out the feathers and skin. Just let him dry naturally and don't worry about the shaking, that is nature's way of raising up their temps to compensate for being wet.

The only thing I do is to make sure I don't create any drafts while Lady is drying by not opening the door too much. If she is in the cage I do wrap a blanket on three sides till she is dry.

Well I did use a hairdryer on the cooler setting for my grey and it went well. She slowly got used to the sound and the breeze. She especially liked the breeze on her tail feathers.

Rosie takes FOREVER to dry. In the colder months I blow dry her. It is one of her favorite things to do. My vet recommended I do this. He recommended a blow dryer holder so she can move away from the air when she has had enough instead of me over drying her. Plus, then I don't have to hold it forever. They sell them for people with back issues who can't normally blow dry the back of their head. We have been using ours for years. :)

Kendra that looks like it has been adapted from one of the sticks they give you at the hospital when you break your leg. However, before anyone gets the idea that is a cool way to obtain one, breaking your leg just to get a free hair-dryer holder is not a good idea.
