With some time on my hands, I did a few things for Salty around the house.

1) I got tired of the suction cup shower things always coming undone, usualy just as Salty is getting into taking a shower with me. So a trip to Home Dept plumbing dept for some PVC fittings and some tub and shower calk, and viola! A built in shower perch that is not coming off this side of the Rapture. 2 flanges, 2 45 deg elbows, a 12" piece of 3/4" pvc and the caulking, rough up the tiles a bit with sand paper, assemble the perch , caulk it in place, and hold in place with duct tape for 24 hours. He is gonna love it. I may glue some rubber texture sheet to the perch for traction.

2) To keep Salty more involved with us at meal times, I picked up a big rope circle perch, found a wooden perch that fit snugly in the middle and using a plant hanging bracket, hung it adjacent to the kitchen table where we eat. Oh and got a stainless bowl hung by 2 wires from the bottom of the circle to catch the droppings and semi munched food. Now at dinner, he gets put on his new spot and can natter away while accepting small tidbits of birdie safe food from us.

You sound so handy with tools. Times like these is when its nice to have a man around the house! Would love to see what you made in a photo! Especially the eating arrangement.

Albert would you like a signature for Salty? Seems several people want one at this time of year. I could use the photo you have posted if you have others and want a signature please post them in the signature forum. Thanks

I never tried taking a parrot in the shower with me....I suppose they either like it or not? And I assume lukewarm water?

Nice job Albert!! Salty must be thrilled!!

bill-e - I shower with Rosie daily. Warm water is fine. I used to love steaming hot so I compromised with warm, and not lukewarm. The way my vet told me to get her in the shower is as follows. Bring your parrot in the bathroom while you shower. (Close the door and put them on the floor) Make sure the can see you (leave shower door or curtain open enough for this). Since they are flock animals they will be really curious and will eventually join. May take about a week or so. With Rosie it took about 2 minutes. She came waddling in the shower and started dancing and singing. Since that day I am not allowed to shower alone. It is one of her favorite activities. I usually leave her in after I get out for about 10 - 30 minutes. :)

Lovely description Kendra
We don't have proper showers in our house, it was built long before bathrooms let alone shower rooms. Everyone I know who has a shower in their house has had it leak through the ceiling into the rooms below so I am not that keen to start ripping the house apart again to fit one in. We have a shower head attached to the taps in our en-suite which is where Casper gets scrubbed up. We put about an inch of luke warm water in the bottom of the bath and put him in for a paddle and then turn the shower on and spray a bit over him. Sometimes he runs up the other end of the bath out of the way (but we can still reach him there haha) and sometimes he lifts his wings so we can soak his sweaty wingpits.
He ALWAYS waits until we have got as far as the bedroom on the way back to his cage before having a good shake. Its a bit like trying to bathe a dog. :th_biggrin:

Rosie mostly does her shake in the shower. (Mind you I ask her if she shook off and do a little shake myself to encourage/amuse her) However, she does that shake on the way to her perch sometimes. Usually after I've applied my makeup. Nothing like a nice spray of water on a newly made up face. Lol. I swear she finds it really funny, which is why she does it. ;)

Thanks Kendra. Nike just took a bath in her bowl...which is how my Amazon did it also. I will give the shower a try at some point (tub shower, not walk in)

Bill move slowly with your shower efforts. As Kendra wrote just her presence in the shower room is enough at first. Sometimes the sound can scare birds.
