So far ( 3 months) Salty has been THE quietest parrot I have ever had. My first bird, Skylar, a spectacle amazon, I didnt really have much of a chance to know him, becasue he flew off a month into ownership. Second birdie was a yellow nape ( Winston) and he was loud and screamed a lot ( but also talked up a storm and picked up stuff seemingly overight ). My third bird was a quaker parrot and he was medium loud (but wound up hating everyone in the family, including small children ). My little BB parrot, Max, tiny bird, and loud as heck ( his natural call was something to be heard).

Salty, yellow shouldered amazon, is so quiet it is amazing. A few semi loud calls in the AM, or when ts feeding time, or when I get home.
The rest of the time its quiet little peeps or trying to talk in his grown up parrot voice. My wife and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop!
He is such a good boy !

Sounds like you are pleased with Salty. Did he come from a breeder? He certainly is cute in his photo. If you would like a signature for him just post photos of him that you think are the best ones in the signature forum and I will get busy creating one for you.

Oh I hope he stays semi quiet for you guys, but you never know in time what will stir them up. He is quite young but let's not tell him that lol.

Yeah, i know that can change, either from temperment or inadvetantly learned behavior. My last birdie, Max, was taught, by accidnt, to scream for food and attention , because my wife would give in when the noise level increased. She knows better now.
Question, i keep reading that amazons start to really talk at around 1 year or so, but the Saltster says 2 things now, and mumbles to himself a lot at certain times of the day. Talking is perk, i know, but i am curious what others experience is.

Casper today, attention seeking: several "hello", no reaction from us so "hello Casper", still no reaction from us so tries the more generic "hello parrot", nope, no reaction there either so next it was the all embracing "hello bird". Last resort, at the top of his voice "Maaaargret". Reply "what?"
So, he seems to know that he is called Casper and that he is a type of bird, a parrot.
Should I be putting this in the thread about intelligence? I should have asked Casper.

Jean-Pierre, you crack me up :). My birds will also get louder with deficit of attention. I think if you listen to Salty and give him what he needs..being it attention, food, comfort, freedom or connection to you, Albert..you will be on the right path :)
