Who is making a Thanksgiving feast? Is it traditional or out of the box type of meal.

My younger family members usually make 2 turkeys, one smoked and one cooked in the oven. Then in Maryland we always have sauerkraut which is so good with the meal. We have a special recipe handed down in the family. We also roast a pan of mixed root vegetables, home made breads, typical vegetables, white potatoes, cranberry orange relish, and 3 different kinds of dressing, sage, corn bread sausage and oyster. Gravy is made the old fashioned way with the turkey essence and oh I forgot ham.
Pies are always made scratch, pumpkin and usually Fuji apple.

We have a couple vegetarians in the family so they have lots of food without eating meat.

I will be getting off work at 7am and going back at 3pm to work a 16 hour shift. I am not cooking anything. However I will be baking the pies tomorrow morning when I get off work. However we will be having turkey, boxed stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, deviled eggs, olives, pumpkin pie, homemade banana pudding and several snacks through out the day. Dinner will be done around 2 so I can wake up eat and go to work while taking some leftovers to work with me.

I'm not sure what we are doing. I will be working from 3pm to midnight. I could cook in the morning and have dinner for lunch but, eh, it won't taste as good that early in the day. I'm thinking we'll have a nice dinner on Friday if I use the crock pot for the ham and prepare everything else Thursday.
Work is serving the traditional foods from a catering place or Boston Market, not sure which.
Delicious food to eat is something we always are thankful for along with family and loved ones. For us, Thanksgiving is another day to count our many daily blessings.

So I don't become to busy to say it, THANK YOU to EVERYONE at PP for being my online parrot family! I truly am thankful for all I have and continue to learn here. I am very thankful for everyone making me feel very comfortable about posting on this wonderful forum :).

I am truly sorry for those of you that must work. As a nurse I worked many holidays but extra pay helps.

Don't feel sorry for me I knew getting into the hospitality industry we are open 365 days a year it's part of the job. I also know I have a 95% likelihood of working Christmas. Again I knew that when I started working in hospitality.

Just found out my niece made pumpkin ice cream in addition to all the other deserts. I want to start the meal with the deserts!

Sounds like everyone is going to have a yummy time. :)

We are having Thanksgiving at our house. The usual fare...turkey, sausage stuffing (not as good as my Noni used to make, but still good), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, veggies, acorn squash rolls, homemade bread served with olive oil & roasted garlic (for my son), squash soup, etc. And of course desserts...pecan pie bars, pumpkin cheesecake and my Grandmother's recipe for apple pie. :) I made some things ahead and froze them. But since I still have a ton to make I should probably get off my butt and start. But catching up on the forum and drinking coffee is much more appealing!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends in the US!

Just got off work 30 minutes ago and before I got home I had a text asking me to come in at 2 instead of 3 even though I'm already going to be working a 16 hour shift tonight

Thanksgiving turned sour. After we finished cleaning up from eating my 86 year old sister got sick. We heard her retching in the bathroom and went in. I could hear her wheezing and knew right away she had aspirated. I yelled to her daughters to call 911 because she was struggling to breathe. They rushed her to the ER. The family all went with her. After receiving emergency care she said she felt 100 percent better. So they are keeping her for the night running more test to be sure she is OK. Whew thank God for emergency medical teams.
