has anyone ever used a dust free/ fragrance free cat litter for a medium in the poop tray of a bird cage?

I would not use any type of litter in a bird cage because the birds can digest it and as it swells they will be totally blocked. The clay litters do not swell but the birds can still digest it and have GI problems. Another thing is the litters can harbor mold and bacteria over time which you know is dangerous. Your safest bet is good old newspaper. by the way this is not a stupid question. Some people use paper towels or buy rolls of newspaper with no print. amazon sells that too.

Casper likes to look at the pictures in the newspapers he is pooping on. I am sure he deliberately aimed at a picture of the Queen.

Do not use cat litter even the dust/fragrance free ones still have dust and a terrible smell. It's best to use old newspaper or actual cage liners

Newspaper is great except when Lady takes a bath in her water bowl, it just doesn't have a good smell when its wet. I have to sit and wait till I think she is finished and clean it up right away.

Charlie, using paper is also good because you can keep an eye on their droppings to be sure things are normal.

I wouldn't think cat litter would be a good idea. I know macaws can get very sick from being near dusty birds like toos or greys. So my guess if parrots lungs are super semsitive. But that is just a guess.

Jean-Pierre - There's my friend Casper the Friendly Ghost! Still hoping for a video of him walking around under the paper. :)
