You know that saying,, "he or she is/has an old soul"? My daughter, Katie, is that. I could feel it from the first time I held her in my arms. She has always been a very wise old woman. Well..I'm thinking, I've got a bunch more lifetimes to go to even get close! :). I'm about half way there..

Today I get a call from my friend who lost her free flying conure, she lives near Seattle, WA. She's thinking about adopting a bird she "thinks" is a macaw. I ask her, "What do you mean you "think" it's a macaw?". She says, "Well, it's big and red and has green on it's wings, it also has a white beak". It's a 17yr. old rescue bird she found on-line, they're asking $200 for it. I told her that a macaw is WAY different than a Pineapple conure and such a huge commitment! She then says,,"Well, Mare, would you take him if he was too much for me?"!!! Will someone please high-five me in the head with a chair!? I said, "Of course!".

Mare can you say "no" to your friend? I hope the conure comes back home.

Yes, Dianne I can say "no". I'm going to give her a call this morning and try and shake some sense into her. She needs to do A LOT of research before committing to this. I did suggest that she check out different parrot forums and read about real life adventures with macaws. She was told that the bird is friendly but hasn't bonded up with anyone, as of yet. I'll let you know how it goes :)

I nominate Kendra as the recipient of this macaw should it not work out with your friend.Lost birds are often found and returned...does your friend want 2birds?

Dave, my friend would absolutely accept two birds. Especially if her little love, Nelly, came back into her life.

Mare I don't mean any harm by saying this but maybe she wouldn't rush into getting this new bird if she knew you would not take it if it didn't work out.

You are so right, Alice. I gave her a call this morning but got her message machine, she hasn't called back. For all I know,,she might be a macaw person. I know that different birds do better with different people. I was talking to Tim about this and he thinks we just may "need" a macaw..?.. what..?..

Hey....how did I get nominated!?!? Lol. You guys will have to fight with BOTH Jef and Rosie!!

Seriously, dealing with a GW that has been with me from babyhood is a huge undertaking. Going from a conure to a rehomed 17 yr old GW is a big change. I would warn her against it. ONLY bc I hate to see the poor guy get moved around even more. That is unless you want a big, red addition to your flock. :)

I'm with Charlie by the way about the high five comment. Thank you for giving this insomniac a good laugh!!

I was just kidding around when I brought you up, Kendra :). I'm sure the last thing you need/want is another GW! I'm going to try again today to get in touch with her. I agree, this bird needs to be handled with care and not moved around from owner to owner.

But then, maybe Tim wants him. ;)

I spoke with Kathy the other day and she decided against the macaw. She came up with it all on her own, the bird would be too much for her. She DID offer to pick it up for Tim, though :). We just don't have the room/time/energy for another large bird. I hope the poor guy finds a good home.
