Do your dogs howl when your bird starts yelling, LOUDLY?! When Amigo gets going outside, the cacophony of howls is hilarious! He just flew in, yelling all the way to his tree, the dogs are laying in the sun next to his tree. His alarm call is blasting and the dogs join in with their howls!..hilarious!! :)

Now that would make a really cute video. Is he trying to scare the dogs?

That is great, he is part of their pack!

No, my dogs leave when Rosie yells. When the dogs bark however, Rosie joins right in.

I'm not positive why the dogs join in but my guess is..he's hurting their ears! Dianne, Amigo doesn't do it to scare the dogs, there were some buzzards flying overhead and he wanted to make sure everyone knew about it..you know,,just in case! :). Kendra, it works that way around here, too. If someone drives in, a WHOLE LOT of alarm systems go off!

Good boy, Amigo. Better to be safe than sorry...buzzards, ick!

The one good thing about the barking/screaming is the second alarm system. :) I always figure a burglar would rather go somewhere else. The barking is bad enough, but the screaming can make a person deaf. At the very least, they would have a bad headache and possibly get caught. Probably not worth it. :)

I've sometimes heard about bird thieves and thought that if they ever tried to snatch one of my cockatoos..the whole county would be alerted, let alone us at home! Their alarm calls are AWESOME!!

I second what Kendra's bird Rosie does. Mine does the same. That is quite entertaining.

When Rosie screeches the dogs howl just like they do when an ambulance or firetruck goes by. Someone told me that the dogs do that to cancel out the sirens/noises that is painful to their ears.

The problem is Rosie screams, the dogs howl, then Rosie screams , the dogs howl. I think Rosie thinks it's fun, the dogs... not so much

Yeah, yeah, PeachyDoll! It's all good, though. We have watch birds! The dogs have lost their job! Amigo is my center, he is my pole...freakin' birds!!

When our birds yell..we have Seminole.. The potty mouthed yellow naped saying she's going to f up the neighborhood and to shut the f up you stupid mfers...not a joke..

Now Monte..he starts the macaw blast, and now yells shut up..and come here...and cracker..I swear he's starting to pick up Seminoles f'er..I hope not..were discouraging it..

The rain will squeak for me...and then there's the sun conure...I never thought a conure could rival a macaw..but the pitch of his shrieks... Omg...lol..it can be a tad much when you're working..and you can't tune it out..it could be an emergency or something wrong..rain is over her seizures..but ya never know.

My Tia. A U2 is less than 4yrs old. She lived with an older Macaw, that has an extensive cussword vocabulary before I got her. I'm glad that she didn't learn any of them that I'm aware of. She doesn't even yell the "shut up" that the Macaw screamed at her regularly when she would go into a screaming display. I give her plenty of attention/laptime, so that helps with the ear piercing scream episodes. She screams in the morning, and again in the afternoon for 5-10min. Or when I'm on the phone, giving my giant cat some attention, or leave the room where she's at.

Yeah...our birds all have different personalities.. It's funny..Seminole.. All you have to do is enter the room too fast and she starts an insane sounding laugh..and she will try to take a bite out of you..very easily over stimulated..Monte will snap at you because Seminole did but will quiet right down and go into lap dog mode for Jess.. Starburst will actively monitor the house when it's quiet..and then if you sneezed, cough, open or close a door or flush the toilet..he will sing you the song of his people..you can't acknowledge him them because it tells him that screaming will get attention..so then when he quiets down..you go pick him up and play with him..

Baby girl(Rain)..my cgc is quiet as can be..she will make noise from time to time mostly if starburst starts screaming and gets in her nerves LOL.. But she will always cuddle under my jaw and stay in chatter mode when I pick her up.. And don't get me wrong..these birds are always being handled, pet, scratched, helped with feathers or played with .
