I really want another bird. I want a female bird and one closer to Rileys age but with everything that has been going on lately I just don't know if it's a good idea.

If you are not sure about it I would suggest you don't go through it. At least when it cones to birds

I think bird lovers always want another bird added to the flock. For me I know I cannot afford to feed and provide vet care for a 3rd bird. My apartment is very small too. Robyn I suggest you make a list of what you can offer another bird and what you cannot offer another bird. How many do you have now?

I have an extra cage sitting in my living room just waiting. I fear if I sell it I will be sorry some day.

I know if it were me I too would make a list of what another bird might mean for everyone under the roof. Then yes, the added expense and time I would have to add to this new family member. I also think for me, I would like the season to be early spring or summer as it seems a bit easier to buy certain fruits and veggies fresh. To much for me to think about right now. Best of luck in your decision Robyn and keep us updated.

I just have 2 Riley my super sweet friendly one year old and Carolina my not so nice and definiately not sweet 17 year old male. You may recall I got Carolina back in April to be a life long friend to Riley since as you know birds do best when not by themselves. Carolina was supposed to be a 6 month old bird and I knew he was most likely older than that I just didn't realize how much older until the vet cut his band off. As far as food goes I am a huge believer in buying in bulk (seeds and pellets) as it saves money in the long run. I am currently feeding my birds (and my grandmas) food that I bought in December last year (air tight containers and frozen except for 2lbs at a time) Veggies I don't consider in the cost as I'm still trying to get them to eat veggies but at the same time it's such a small portion of what I use for myself that it'd be a waste to figure out the actual cost of what I give them from what I buy for the people to eat. I did rehome all the babies I hand fed except for Eclipse because I was going to keep him but he died. I know holiday season is a bad time to buy birds but there are a few on craigslist I really want.

Vet care really isn't as concern for me as my vet is inexpensive and I do have a vet fund set up however I would like to first save the $1,200+ it will cost to get Rocky's fatty tumor removed from his joint. Cage is no problem I had 4 of the babies I hand fed plus Riley and Carolina in Riley's cage as I didn't want to keep the four babies in the hospital cage and the babies still flapped around from one perch to the other no problem (better than Riley does). I sometimes had to seriously stop and look for each of the 6 birds to make sure everyone was doing ok. I also have the hospital cage and 3 spare cages in my grandmas basement so cages are not an issue.

I always wanted another bird then I got one then I wanted another now I have two then another now I have three and so on .. I currently own five and cannot financially afford any more between vet visits for wellness check ups and dreaded emergencys, food, and toys. If you have ANY doubt if you can afford another feathered friend just wait till you can afford more or get more stable or whatever it is that may be ailing you at the moment. I don't know your situation so I'm throwing it all out there. The time will come for another bird. Might not be right away. Don't rush out on an impulse. What if an emergency happened? Like A pulled ligament or sickness. Happened to me. The pulled ligament. Had to open a cc to pay for it .. You don't want that. Takes your credit score down and puts you in debt lol. Take it from me. I KNOW :) haha. The time may not be now but that doesn't have to mean itll never happen :)
Good luck on whatever you may decide my friend!

Plus it's always best to get your current friend health in check first not that it is not but you mention a fatty tumor. My Greenwing has papillomas so I understand the vet visits and it's constant. May be a few times before all that tumor is totally removed to. Also birds tend to pick on one another if something doesn't look right lol. My hawk head was WAS always singled out for the band on her foot till I had the vet remove it.
Good luck!

Due to the location of Rocky's fatty tumor they would have to get it all out at once as doing too many surgeries on a joint can make that joint completely useless. I am still REALLY wanting a female pearl cockatiel, but I am thinking about waiting until spring. When there is a chance of getting to hand feed one and building the bond from the start. Plus by spring Rocky will have had his surgery and be towards the end of the healing process.
