There is a very nice brand of organic juices called Bolthouse. I give the carrot juice to my birds. Also I cook grains in the juice,

Too much sugar..not really good for them. I have used a fruit/veggie juice low in sugar to bake my birdy bread, but even that I have now replaced with coconut water, as I have learned that fruit should be given in moderation. A once in a while treat probably would not hurt, but I wouldn't make it a daily thing. A juice made from vegetables, as in one you made yourself, or something like carrot juice might be a better option. As Dianne mentioned, something organic would be better than anything concentrated or full of artificial ingredients and preservatives.

Due to the sugar I would only offer it rarely. However, it can be a good thing to use to teach your birds to nicely accept a syringe, to help train them for a time when they may need to to take medications. You can use less than 1cc though for that training with one of the little 1cc syringes :) 0.5cc could suffice for that training.

be easy with the coconut water as well, its VERY high in sodium which like sugar is not healthy for parrots.
Coconut water is also high in Potassium, i have been in debates about that its too much potassium but for me im more concerned about the salt.
you can never go wrong with just plain water.

Good morning keep smiling!
I just got a jar of organic raw virgin coconut oil (for myself) and I wondered if you knew if its ok if the bird ingests a little because she licks it off my face and hands. It's very pure. Also she rubs against it. This started today.

I have not read anything saying coconut oil is bad for parrots, infact everything i have read on the matter says it should be included in their diet and is up there with red palm oil.

Ok thanks, because most of what I read was positive but a few sites didn't agree with it, saying it was fattening among other things.:th_greet13:

I use coconut oil now in my birdy bread instead of vegetable oils. It's a good fat. As mentioned red palm oil is good, but mine do not like the taste, so if I use it I have to hide it.

I believe in everything in moderation so Alittle juice and so on is ok at least I say and I do use it in my bird bread as well, my guys also love teas and I do offer natural herbal teas to them, when my other rosebreasted cockatoo Juliet was still around she was going to get ginger root teas for her arthritis. I have a list of great herbal teas for the birds around here somewhere I'll look for!
