The Walking Dead is my absolute favorite show. The zombies are generally peripheral, the show has such great character stories. My teen son loves the show as well.
There is a Walker Stalker Convention in the outskirts of Philly this weekend. I know, I know, same as the Pope. To avoid the traffic craziness I picked him up early from school and we are checked in to our hotel. We went to dinner at his favorite resturaunt and are now chilling in the room.
So excited for this weekend. We have tickets to meet and get photos with some of the actors which is awesome. Not sure how I will do in a convention setting...I cannot stand crowds. Fingers crossed the Pope insanity will keep it from getting too crowded. When we picked up our passes this afternoon it looked so cool. As cool as it is, I am most excited to have a weekend away with my baby boy. It is going to be so much fun experiencing this with him. It's not all that often that we get one on one time together these days. He is growing up so darn fast. Sometimes I wish I could freeze time...just for a little bit. :)
I've never watched The Walking Dead but I know people that are really into it. Such a special time for you and your son to experience this together, it's something you both will always remember.
When our kids were growing up, we had amazing family vacations, mostly to Mexico or the southwest, Indian country, Lake Powell. Several years ago, I felt like seeing the west coast, from just above San Fransisco up through Oregon, somewhere I've never been. Tim wasn't into it so I asked my daughter, Katie, and son, Wyatt, if they wanted to do a road trip with me. We took 10 days and drove up Hwy. 1, along the coast, the whole way. It is the most beautiful of coastlines that I've ever seen. This was around ten years ago and the kids will still comment on it being such a special, bonding time for all of us.
They do grow up fast, Kendra, it's wonderful you two have this time to remember :)

Have a great time and make the most of it - my boy is older at over forty than I would like to be myself.

I had to giggle at your post Kendra. You don't do well in crowds and you are going into a Zombie convention. Crowds + Zombies Aaahhhh.
Reminds me of the time I was walking down the street in Vancouver quite a few years back and I had no idea there was a Zombie walk going on, I was like WTH!*?!? It was like 3 weeks before Halloween. I thought it was the Zombie Apolcylyse!!! I veered off down a side street right quick! Asked another pedestrian what was going on, it made me smile that people are that passionate about something they love.
Enjoy your weekend with your son, just feed off his excitement and energy, that will dissipate any anxiety about the crowds + zombies. And when I say feed, I don't mean zombie feeding  (I'm sorry I had to!)

Enjoy your adventure, Kendra! Hmm, I wonder how the Pope would fare in the midst of a crowd of zombies?? ;)

So far, crowds haven't been too bad. Lots of lines, but got lots of fun photo ops. Now waiting in line again so I figured I would check in.
Thanks everyone for the good thoughts!
Mare - that sounds like an unbelievable trip!!
PeachyDoll - don't worry, we brought snacks so I won't get the urge to feed on my son. Lol!
Tony - I believe the convention actually sent him an invite. So ridiculous. Our hotel was filled with people going to see the Pope. It is craziness...Philly center is pretty much closed off. Glad we are NOT there!

Yep. Looks like a good time, Kendra. Thanks for sharing.
So is there a cologne or other material/substance which the living zombies might apply to themselves to give off an aroma of apparently decaying flesh? I know virtually nothing about the hobby (or interest) of zombie portrayal ... but each time I see a photo or a video of someone assuming the role the first thing that runs through my mind is whether or not there's a rank smell to go with the appearance. I'd think it would make the experience more realistic (albeit fairly repulsive) ;)

Ha! Got me! That would be GROSS!!
I know in the show people cover themselves in dead people to fool zombies if they are stuck.
We did see a zombie Pope and they had the cardboard Pope that is everywhere here. There is even one in our hotel lobby.

It was a fun but tiring day. We will head back tomorrow morning to see a panel or two and then go home. CW has a football game in the afternoon so we will cut it short. :)

OMG! That Pope photo is hilarious!
The actors look like they are having as much fun as you and your son. I love it!!!
Glad you both had a nice time. It is great to create special moments and recall the fun you had!

It really was nice to spend one on one time with him. That doesn't happen very often. As he is getting older he seems to prefer hanging with his Dad. Completely normal, I know. :)
He was asking about going to another in December so I guess he liked hanging with boring Mom. Yayy!!
Well I don't think your being a boring Mom when you do things that interest him. That's just what each parent does to help get to know the young person we have been blessed with :).
