I am wondering how many of us fix pumpkin for our birds. If you do how do you serve it? Do you cook it first, partially cook it and how? Microwave or oven or top of stove? My guys have such small beaks but they can destroy a raw carrot. I just bought my first pomegranate for Tango and Kobe. I know it will make a huge mess as I must feel inside cage still. Autumn squash is also full of nutrients for parrots. We loose a lot of fresh produce from summer but gain the nice root vegetables.

One can make a pumpkin puree to be mixed with other chop.

Place pumpkin on baking sheet and roast at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until tender.
Remove the skin by scraping away.
Place chunks into food processor or blender and blend until smooth.

Note: If the purée is too “watery”, you can strain it on cheesecloth or mesh strainer.
You can either store it in a Ziploc bag or Tupperware container for later use, or freeze in ice cube trays for easy 1-tsp size servings to add in to your pets food each day. Just freeze the trays, and then remove the cubes and store in Ziploc bags to keep them fresh.
Remember, you don't HAVE to make your own pumpkin puree. You can always used canned

I've never tried pumpkin with our guys and gals but definitely will! Amigo and Sassy love pomegranate seeds. Sassy is the messy eater, it dyes her chin, cheeks and neck :)

I went to a seldom visited food store for a small pumpkin today and asked the clerk if he would slice it for me because my hands are weak. He asked me what I was planning in doing with it. Told him it was for my small birds. Fifteen minutes later he handed me two packages of small pumpkin pieces with all seeds wrapped up.

I gave him a tip. So Mare you can grate raw pumpkin and mix with chop. So full of good things for our birds. I also baked some with the seeds and ground the mess and birds devoured it. Actually the fall produce has more nutrient value than the summer produce.

I'm not a big fan of pumpkin but both Lady and I love pomegranates! Maybe I can find some pumpkin in the organic baby food section to see if she enjoys it. If so I will surely try your recipe with a nice small fresh one.
