Well, we have been in the OBX since Sunday. It is an annual trip we take with family friends. We are having a wonderful time and everything has been great.
However, this morning I woke up with a bad case of missing Rosie. I didn't miss her much the first few days bc we were super busy. Also, as horrible as it sounds it is a nice break since Rosie dominates 90% of my time when we are home. I am able to shower alone, do laundry alone, go outside without being screamed after, talk to people without without somebirdy sticking their tongue in my ear and flapping, among many other forms of freedom.
Freedom is great at first, but I am looking forward to seeing my little red boss.
Has anyone else ever had a bad case of missing their parrot while away?

I never encounter such circumstances, Kendra. And that's for the simple fact that I never take vacations ;). But I will say that I miss and worry about my guys each time I merely drive into town for groceries or other supplies. I'm sure I would be a basket case if I ever left them in someone's care for an extended period. I suppose we're rather dysfunctional in that regard.

Same here, I cannot afford a vacation. Last time I went to Colorado to see my daughter was 10 years ago and they paid for my ticket. Many bird people do not take vacations because they do not want to be away from the flock.

We got home early this afternoon. My mom had been here this morning and showered Rosie and played with the dogs. Everyone was snoozing when we opened the door. ;)
Rosie was happy and patiently said, Hi...Hello...over and over again until I washed my hands and was able to get her. Lots and lots of kisses, puffing up and cuddles. Then Mommy had to get to work and preen, preen, preen. We still have a bit to do, but we showered (her second today) and she got soaked to the skin. Since she really doesn't like me to touch her when she is wet she has been drying off on her tree next to an open window.
So happy to be home with all my crazies. I love getting away, but it is awesome to come home!

Welcome back, Kendra! I can imagine how happy Rosie was to see you :). Yes, I do miss my little darlings when I'm away, too. It's always nice coming home to them but also a nice break when I get away. It's nice that you have your mom to help you with her. I remember when you first got Rosie your mom was a bit afraid of her? Are they all good now?
The video was great, Dianne..thanks for sharing!

Mare - my mom was a bit weary of the beak. :) She is now past that and they are fine. She is probably the only other person that handles Rosie besides me. She usually has a few bruises by the time we get home. My mom is a trouper and we are very lucky. Rosie usually has learned a new word every time we go away. First it was her beep beep. This time they were working on 1, 2, 3... Rosie really responds well with my mom. It's funny to see my mom come in, grab that big beak and plant a big smooch on it. Even when Rosie is lunging bc she is sitting on me and wants me to herself. Love my mom.
My MIL on the other hand is TERRIFIED of Rosie. She will talk to her and likes her from afar. But the minute Rosie flaps, my MIL runs for the bathroom. Rosie has picked up on this. It is now a super fun game to climb to my mid back and flap crazily while laughing when my MIL is here. Evil birdy!! Sigh...
