Wash well
Cut into tiny pieces
Make 100-/-sure there are zeros seeds in the feed
Give small amount to bird
Sit back and watch them feast...perhaps with a beer or glass of wine as a reward to yourself for a job well done.
Repeat daily if you wish :)

Should they be peeled?

Yes peal the apples. If they are not organic that is where the pesticides will be. I put my apples on a skewer.

Wash with Dawn Original dish soap then spray with hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar, doesn't matter which order, just don't mix the two together and let them sit for 5 minutes. I always a second time with the Dawn before I serve.

I usually soak the apple in lemon or lime juice for 5 mins, after giving them a good wash. Then wash the juice off the apple with lots of cold water, peel it and slice it up.

Like its been already suggested you can put it on a skewer which is easier to clamp on the cage somewhere, or just dice up bite size pieces and put it in a bowl for them.

Since you were asking about vinegar you can mix 1 part organic apple cider vinegar to 3 parts of water and spray or soak your veggies/fruits in this solution prior to feeding. Also oxyfresh cleansing gele is good for this too. Oxyfresh goes a long way as it is a good cage cleaner too.
