Love these 2 photos, especially her expression. If one wanted to put a caption on the first photo: "My dust is blowing away"

Awesome pics! The second one could be a photo shoot with a fan blowing in the background. Lol

You're right Mr P, she's definitely not miffed just look at those cheek feathers covering that beak. That is pure joy!

Do fluffed feathers around the beak indicate happiness in cockatoos? Very cool! I always wondered what that meant.

The fluffed feathers around the beak in my cockatoos, Sassy and Amigo, definitely means contentment. I love the pics of Rosie getting a wind massage, PeachyDoll!!

The small cheek feathers covering the lower mandible and sides of the beak indicate relaxation and contentment. It is often accompanied by beak grinding and (with Rosie) some soft purring. She will often nod off for a nap like that. Since cockatoos express themselves with their feathers most owners are aware of what the various feather positions can mean. I don't speak for every cockatoo when saying this as they are all unique unto themselves. For instance when Rosie paces from foot to foot and tucks her neck in real low I know she is irritated with something or someone. When she completely flares all her head feathers and rocks her head from shoulder to shoulder she is "whooping it up" and Woo Hoo'ing and wants to be the life of the party, the entertainment and is just having a crazy cockatoo time. She also fully flares but shrieks (which indicates she is very scared of something), she had spotted a small hawk in a tree eyeballing her and it was very obvious this was her panic alarm. Sometimes she slightly flares her bangs which indicate curiosity/interest (usually in a new object or food). When Rosie's head feathers are completely slicked back this can indicate a defensive position or being on guard (especially when she's trying to size someone up). As I write this I realize how much I've read and studied over the last year to get to know her and her needs/wants and how complicated they are. I suppose the feathers of a cockatoo are much like reading a person's facial expressions. Right now Rosie's beak is covered with feathers after her breakfast and she's nodding off for her morning nap. Life is good

Wow, that is awesome. I am guessing you read her feathers the way I read Rosie the GWs pupils. Combined with body language and SOME feather reading. With Rosie it is only full feather fluff means happy. Mohawk fluff means back off! :)
