Summer, its almost over and its soon becoming autumn.
Sitting outside last night I noticed at 8:30 pm that it was dark, I enjoyed the longer light summer pre-evenings but that's all over now.
Soon the cooler nights will be happening here as last night it was 68°F outside with a cold breeze. Get your sweaters ready!

No way!!! I refuse to go along with that! ;) Summer is still going strong here in NJ. We have almost a month left. :)
For us, August is the hottest month. "The dog days of summer." Is it different in Canada?

Depending on where you live in Canada I suppose it can be different. June and July are our hottest months usually but not lately.
August in Toronto is a time for cooler nights and hottish sunny days but less humidity. In the middle of August people are cursing themselves because they booked time off and find its too cold to go in lakes and its too windy and cool outside.
Personally I love August, I like the change of temps at night and the cooler day temps. We get a few really nice and hot days but for some reason summer has been skipping by Toronto the last couple of years, there are hardly any hot humid days like the city has experienced.
Global Warming? El Nino?

The only thing I do not like about summer is my electric bill from running the AC. Heat is paid for in the winter. Love the summer produce. Now we have farmers coming to us to sell their veggies. We even had a huge truck from the Maryland Food Bank here giving away huge amounts of fresh produce. It was wonderful.

WOW! what a deal from the food bank giving away fresh produce. I hope the linnies like all the great meals you make them.
This year I didn't use the A/C in the house very much, we only used it 4 or 5 times at the office as well that's how comfortable our weather has been here. Mid 70's temps and low humidity, the staff at the office said the ceiling fans and room fans kept cool air circulating and there was no need for the a/c.
Which I'm sure our landlord was happy about, he supplies our heat and a/c all year round.
Nick, I have a question about your weather where you live..has it changed much over the last few years?..do you get much rain, like..ever? Here in California we've kind of been suffering.

Much of the weather news is from Ca. Mostly fires burning so much land.
Yes, Dianne, lots of fires due to no rain. It's scary living where we live on the side of a hillside. If there were a fire blow us, it would run uphill and we could be toast.

I just moved to Toronto last year and have heard the weather here has only changed a lot in temperatures, the rain has been about the same. We get rain maybe 2 times a week?
This year there were parts of Ontario that had serious record rain fall that has hurt the crops, however where I am in Toronto just 30 mins east and west of where I am my family has farms where they grow produce/fruits veggies. They said the rain has been perfect for their crops, not too much not too little.
What everyone has said about the last 2 years in Toronto was we didn't have the scorching heat waves.
This summer I think there has only been 2 heat advisory warnings where the tv/internet/radio warns people to stay in the air conditioning.
People in the city are surprised at the cool evenings and the days of sunshine with temps in the mid 70's and lower. In June the furnace kicked on a couple of times in the early morning as it got below 60 F. This was a rarity!
Not many people are complaining about this beautiful type of weather the last 2 years they are just not use to it as the city is usually a melting pot of lava for 3 months of the year.
They've predicted our winter this year to be mild without much snow or bitterly cold.
If that happens then I will be convinced climate change is happening and for the worse. :th_eek:

It's a heat warning here, over 110f for days, but its a typical summer in Arizona. I'm tired of it..come on fall and winter!

Uggh! 110 is too hot!! I was feeling annoyed by our high 90 weather. I feel for you!!
It is truly still hot enough to run the a.c. and I know the electric company is lovin' it! I must say I favor the spring and its rain as well as autumn and the cooler temps.

Today we are sweltering. LOL
Its 25°C = 79° F .... but it feels like its 32°C which is a sweltering 89.6°F. I am going to die its soooooooooooo hot. NOT
The humidity is high today at 69% so its a little muggy. I have the fans blowing in the house and haven't put the a/c on yet.
SUMMER ! YEAH!

Don't make me jealous! It will be another super warm week here. Mid to high 90s. High humidity...just gross if you are not in the water or in air conditioning. I was out by the pool but gave up by noon. Just too sticky and hot for me.
Spending the day watching The Fall on Netflix in the air conditioning. Rosie has been drying off on her tree after our shower. I have the window next to her tree open but she is sitting on the branch furthest from it. I guess it is even too gross for her. :)
We don't have A/C, we have an evaporated cooler/swamp box to beat the heat. On the rare humid days, it doesn't work very well..I'm looking forward to the end of summer and some cooler weather! I must say, though, Amigo rather enjoys the heat out there. When it starts getting up around 110 is when he's had enough :)

That's too hot for me if you have to come in from the pool and Rosie isn't interested in hanging out near the window.
Stay nice and cool and enjoy your show. :)

Mare - I never heard of an evaporated cooler/swamp box before. What is that? How nice that you don't get much humidity!!!
Mr Peepers
08-15-2015, 11:21 PM
Swamp coolers are sort of like air conditioners you can move from room to room, you stick the vent hose out a window and crank the thing letting it pull all the humidity out of the air and recirculating cool air into the room.
They remove quite a bit and can cool a room nicely keeping it in the lower 70's.
People who can't place an air conditioner in their window due to the shape or size of their windows get one of these as the hose adjusts in any window.

Ahhh, so they are like portable air conditioners? Same thing, hose out the window.
We have central ac, most people in our area do. But I like the idea of a swamp cooler that would remove the humidity and cool down the house!!

If only we could keep the sun up year round and not have it dark around 4 pm would be great.
Weatherman here said last week there might be an El Nino which would be a milder winter. At least I can hope for that.

In Calgary, AB Canada we have had a couple thunderstorm warning this Month... It has been crazy hot which is not fully normal... usually we get a high of 25 degrees celcius, but this August has been mostly 30's. We get a lot of rain during July. Our weather changes on a dime we get crazy chinooks and weather changes. It was plus 30 one day last week with heavy thunderstoms in the afternoon and it came on within minutes. one moment sunny next moment black skys. oh and we even had our first ever Calgary tornado warning this summer. August is our hotter month for sure, may has become our rainy/snow month and June and July is more spring weather.

Bizarre the difference in weather when we are neighbors just a few provinces apart.
Heavy humidity today finally let the clouds burst and we are getting a wonderful cool rain shower atm. Tonight thunder storms coming.
If I could I would send some your way Mare.

Its 82F here but feels higher with high humidity as well, we are suppose to get some rain tonight and all day tomorrow which will put us back into cooler temps.
The last 4 days we've had a heat wave, actual summer hot humid weather everyone else complained about. :th_eek: :th_biggrin:
Thanks, Alice, I WOULD TAKE that rain!! I can't believe you guys don't know what a swamp cooler is!? Nick was close but not quite. When we built our home we had a/c, it is ducted for a/c and it was quite comfortable. Well..Tim was always not happy about the electric bill and when one winter it blew up, (it was also our central heating unit)..hey..he was happy as a clam! He put a hole in the roof and set a swamp box on top and we've had that as our only cooling ever since. Seriously, we are not the hillbillies like we sound :)..well,,maybe a little..
Growing up in the desert, Tim and I both, that's what we had in our homes. The air is so dry in the desert, it's normally very comfortable with that system. It's a big metal box with a type of squirrel wheel inside, a motor to turn it, surrounded by big pads that get wet from water running on them. The hot outside air is sucked through the wet pads and blown into the house. Very nice system..until it's humid outside,,then it works like do-doo.

I've seen those large swamp coolers on houses and read lots of people who use and have them. They say they are life savers, the good thing about the large ones on the outside/top of your house is the noise stays outside.
Indoor portable swamp coolers are really noisy and invasive.

Weather for NJ is 90 for the weekend though. Would prefer 80s but I won't complain!!

It might get a little warmer here next week, it might hit high 70's and that's about average for here in September anyways.
Kids go back to school here on the 8th of September, my brother and I have a bet there will be frost on the ground that day. :th_biggrin:

Oh, I bet the fall colors are amazing where you live Kendra! I remember that feeling when the kids went back to school and enjoying all the activities that went along with it. Good times, I wish they'd start cranking out some grandkids for me to enjoy!! :).
We had a few days this week of cool nights and cooler than normal days, low 80's, it was wonderful! Heats now back but it was a nice break :)

Mare - It is pretty, and I love the fall weather. In recent years the weather has tended to go from hot to cold. Not too much crisp weather, which is what I love. :)
Hope your kids give you lots and lots of grandchildren SOON.
How cool does it get in winter in your area Mare?
I like the in between seasons also. Spring and Autumn come and go so quickly. It is 79F here today and the sun is still very strong, but the humidity is only 35% which makes the day easier to enjoy. Some of the trees do look thinner but I haven't seen any colorful leaves just yet altho I'm sure their on there way.
WARNING TO EAST COAST USA!!! Big storm brewing in the Atlantic. Joaquin.

Ahhh, yes. We have gone from 80 degrees on Wed to a high of 53 degrees today with list of rain. And thats before Joaquin is supposed to get up here...that's Monday. Our dopey governor called a state of emergency. Meanwhile it looks like it is going to stay out at sea for our area.
I sure hope so, it is currently raining here and has been since late last night or sometime in the wee hours of the morning. Still keeping an eye on the weather.
