Oh my gosh I'm so excited. I go to pick up my new baby senegal on the 16th!!!!!! :th_heart: I had decided I wanted a meyers or senegal as my next flock member and loe and behold I found a breeder who has two babies available that lives nearby. He's only 45 minutes away! Which is good I didn't want to have to get a bird shipped but I just couldn't find any near me . . . till now :D

Wonderful!! Congrats!!! Can't wait to see pics!!!

What are you naming him/her??

Thanks everyone! I have no idea what I'll be naming him but after I get a feel for his/her personality I'm sure the name will come to me :) I'm so excited I can hardly wait and yes I will be posting lots of pics!!! It would be nice if he got along with my gcc in the future but I've heard senegals don't always get along well with others lol. I'll just have to wait and see after quarantine. Btw how long should I quarantine the senegal before it's safe to have him in the same house as my gcc?

It is a very chronic infection and is terminal, so you'll have to deal with it forever!

Cuties!!!!!

No one answered your quarantine question? With other species we usually do a month (30 days) so I would assume it would be similar with birds..

Congratulations! Beautiful bird, you must be so excited! When I decided to adopt Savannah I had to wait a week to take her home to set up my house and it felt sooooo long! It's hard to contain the excitement, isn't it! I hope it flies by for you. Good luck and I can't wait to see pics!:th_yah:

Thank you Kara for answering my question and yes Blanca it does seem like forever ugh! And Yes Justin it is terminal but be careful because it's extremely contagious!!! They are weaned now onto pellets and seed/fresh fruit & veggies so he/she will be ready for me to bring home next wk YAY :D I was afraid that it might take longer to wean and I would have to wait longer but she assured me that he/she would be ready. I will post pics next thursday :)

This is true. My Rizzy is a wimp (in gcc terms) lol. My last gcc Ping was a fiesty lil girl . . . she thought she was 10 ft tall & bulletproof!

Congrats on your new baby GGC. I can't wait to see pics & hear all about he/she. My GGC was 5 yrs. old when I got her as a re-home, so it will be fun seeing your feathered darling grow into the wonderfully cute adults they become. Do you have a name picked out yet?:th_wink:

Thanks! I pick him up today in just a couple hours . . . I'm feeling very feverish I think I have a bad case of bird fever!!! I will be posting pics tonight and figuring out a name :D I'm so happy. I officially have no more room for cages in the house lol that's probably a good thing tho! After this new addition I think my flock will be complete . . . for a while at least ;)

Okay so I need some help. I got my baby senegal today and he's so very sweet and healthy and easy to handle. When I got him home he started crying and I think maybe he is wanting formula so I drove to the store and got some. It's been a long time since I have handfed and of course I read all the directions and temped the formula before I fed him and he ate some but not very much. He has seed, pellets, millet, and I had some steamed cooled broccoli and corn for him but he hasn't eaten much of it. Luckily after I did feed him some formula I covered him and he hasn't been crying since. I just need some help, info anything in regards to handfeeding and completing the weaning process. He's between 8-9 wks old.

Why not try weaning pellets? You soak them, get a small amount, squeeze the water out, and offer from your fingers. It would be a comfort feeding...he is just settling in and it takes a little while. As long as you see him eat and drink, he will be fine.

Yes he is so good. He let me flip him on his back yesterday and laid there until I was finished trimming his nails. Very good baby but has been crying for food a bit. I finally got him in his big cage with toys and offered him some formula mixed with applesauce in a small bowl, millet, pellets, nutri berries, seed, and enjoys kashi go lean crunch lol. Seems to be eating by himself better. I've been kinda stressed about weaning him properly because it's been a long time lol just worrier I guess.
