What would you guys like when looking for a new pet sitter?

Hey there!

Some friends and I are trying to make finding a pet sitter easier. We'd really like some help finding out what pet owners are looking for when looking for a pet sitter or what pet sitters would like so that we can create something with this in mind. I just took care of two cats for 8 days.

I would want documentation of a background check, recent references, knowledge of animal care and what to do in emergencies. The people I sat for asked me for nothing. Word of mouth is more important then signing up with an agency.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond! I'm in the same boat as you where I'd feel a lot better if I had some proof the pet sitter had some previous experience sitting for other folks first. If you don't mind me asking, did the owner of the 2 cats you sat for find you via word of mouth?

I was registered in a care site on the web for a very short time. I responded to her ad and did not hear anything for a good while. Then when I made up my mind to cancel my account she answered my ad so we got in touch with each other after I closed my account. From now on it will be word of mouth.
