Same here. By 7 pm my Linnies are on their sleep perch side by side waiting for the cage cover. They seem to have a time clock in their little adorable heads.

It varies by the season, as soon as the sun sets, they go to bed.

So your linnies are living together now? Cool!

Perhaps a cute little male singing canary would like to live in the empty cage? :th_biggrin:

I'm with Birdbabe on times for bed because of the seasons and what time darkness comes. Currently SPX wants to go to bed at 7 pm and I should oblige the budgie boy because I get up at 5am and he wakes up to start his day due to my early activity.

5am mornings means he should go to sleep at 7pm but I leave him to stay up till 8:30pm. If he's moulting then he goes to bed earlier so he's not fussing with his feathers, more sleep when moulting makes for a happier budgie and makes for a happier me. :th_biggrin:

I'm with Birdbabe. Whenever all the other birds go to bed in nature we tell Rosie it's her bedtime too when the cactus wrens, woodpeckers, cardinals, orioles and hummingbirds are sleeping she should too. It works for us.

It really depends. In the winter, usually around 7. In the warmer months, if I have been with her all day, bt 7 and 8. If I haven't been around she will hang with me in our bedroom on her stand. (Once 7ish hits she wants to be near me, but not cuddling) Then bt 8 - 9. She sometimes will fall asleep on her stand bc I will turn the lights off and close the blinds. She seems to like it and it's her special time so it works for us.

Usually when the drapes/blinds in the den are open and SPX can see its dark outside he will go sit near his swing perch and be very quiet. This is his way of telling me its bed time.... unfortunately at 5pm in the late fall its dark here and that's much too early for him to go to sleep so I make sure there are plenty of lamps on in the room and he has his UV light over his cage to give that illusion of a longer day, I just make sure to get the drapes closed and the blinds closed early so he can't see the darkness outside.

Generally I tend to cover Lady between 8 and 9 pm. The seasons do make a difference but sometimes so does my work schedule. As long as she gets 10 hours I think she's good.

We can't work with the seasons because we only get eight hours daylight in December and sixteen hours in June. Casper is just like a child at bed time, sits down by his food bowl pretending to eat because it is still light out at the moment. In winter he was going up to his sleep perch and grumbling if we were a bit tardy in putting his cover over. Margaret has made him a nice cage cover out of nylon fleece - like the jackets for humans are made of. He also has a matching cosy to snuggle up to in the same dark green material.

Funny because SPX does the same thing, I get a few angry ack acks and he will bang against his swing making it smack against the cage bars noisily. Of course I hear the kerfuffle and know he has had enough and he wants the lights out.

Interesting how they tell us when its time to do their biding. Slaves us humans they have us trained well.
