My daughter and I went blueberry picking yesterday. I love going, it is always seems like summer officially begins when we go. :)

We ended up bringing home about 20 lbs. Sounds like a lot, but I will probably end up going back before the season is over. They are so sweet and put the store berries to shame. I use them for baking, Jef uses them for smoothies and Ash, the dogs and Rosie eat them plain. I freeze a bunch so we have them for a few months.

I gave my diva Rosie some when we got home yesterday. She LOVED them. It has been a while since she had any. I gave her some with her breakfast this morning and shortly thereafter she started screaming like a loon. It took me a minute (no coffee yet) to figure out that she wanted MORE, MORE, MORE. So Miss Thing has been blissfully eating blueberries all morning. Which is truly fun...blue beak, blue walls, blue floor and blue poop. LOL

Does anyone else's parrot love blueberries as much as my Rosie?

I've never tried blueberries on my birds! I'm definitely going to now! Sounds like a good time you and Ashie had :). I have a friend that owns a berry farm, small, local, a few acres of blackberries and raspberries and we would go picking every summer, so much fun :). She's closed to the public now, her hubs has advanced MS, but she still calls me to come over when the berries are ready for picking! I'll have to try some fresh ones on my fids :)

Rosie will try some blueberries once and a while. I wish she loved them more so full of antioxidants.

If I had that many blueberries I'd make some blueberry jam with a little sugar and lemon juice.

I LOVE picking any fruit/veggie. I grew up in the northern part of the state which is very close to NYC...so more urban and no picking. Where I am now is farms galore, I love it. I drag my kids to pick everything. They don't really appreciate it the way I do and get bored quickly. We have friends who have a small farm and the kids like going there to help pick for the farm stand. But I think it is more bc of the quad they ride than the picking. The blueberry place is 40 min away so my daughter was a very good sport to hang with me. :) I did make her pie, bread and muffins already so I think she is ok.

Tony - it is a sight. My daughter's friend thought it was the funniest thing that Rosie pooped blue. I guess she is living up to her name...Rosie Rainbow. ;)

Mare - how awesome that you can visit your friend and get some yummy treats. I'm sorry about her husband, that must be very difficult for her.

PeachyDoll - what a great idea, I will have to check for jam recipes. :)

I would love to see a pic of your white/peach birds after berries ladies! That would be a berry stained mess...if they eat the way my girl does. :)

Funny, Rosie does not enjoy blueberries from the store. She only likes the berries that I pick at this farm. I think it is bc they are sweet and the berries I end up with from the store usually aren't.

My two love them and yes the bottom of the cage turns blue. They are totally nutritious. I like them in cereal or with almond milk. Can you show us how big the wild ones are in a photo? Hope you do not get poison ivy. Berry picking always gave me the rash big time.

Its great your Rosie loves blue berry's, I can imagine your walls and the cage and the stains!

I'm not really a fan of blue berries but I do like a dish of blue berry grunt, its a Nova Scotia delight of stewed blue berries with sugar and some spices the a pile of large dumplings dropped into the mixture while its boiling hot. The end results it a dish of a hot fluffy dumpling with sweet blue berry sauce to make your teeth look purple.

If you really want to make it more decadent then add some vanilla bean ice cream.

Sure! I will post some pics. The first is my daughter's pic, she is the photographer. The others are mine.

[Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] Larger variety - sweet and tangy berries (I put a quarter in with them for size)

[Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] Smaller variety - sweet no tang

I tried to get a pic of her with a really messy beak but Rosie is too vain. She refused to pose, the other pics are shortly after we showered and got cleaned up. ;)

You are so lucky. They are beauties. Do you live near the Maryland PA border?

Thanks, they are yummy!

Hmmm...not sure where that is. We are about 2 1/2 hours from Maryland. PA is about 20 minutes from us, we are closest to Bucks County. :)

Another nice outing and a wonderful box of blueberries. I would enjoy the blackberries or raspberries more as I too am not a big fan of eating them as they are but jam and muffins oh yeah :P.
