View Full Version : Fire season..
Another drought year in California and the season has started with a vengeance. Tim and I drove to the mountains, yesterday, to do a hike around Iron Lakes, it was absolutely gorgeous! No one was there, we had the place to ourselves. [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]
My photobucket is persnickety so I will add more photos as it allows me, when it's ready :)
Anyways, by the time we are heading back towards home, 3hours later, we get turned back to an alternate route. The road is closed due to a fire. We could see that it was major but couldn't tell where it was. It was between us and town, we live below town. It is still going strong this morning, smoke averywhere for miles. I find out this morning that two more fires have also started in our mountain communities. At the moment, we have three active forest fires, this is going to be a very stressful year, damn.. :(

I have a friend that works for the California Fire service, she's working one of those three fires right now. I know it is such a difficult time of year. I hope everyone stays safe.

Stay safe Mare, make sure to have food supplies and your travel cages ready for the fids in case you need them to get out of the house quickly.
We have two close family members that are local and are on the Hot Shot firefighter team. They just got home from a fire near Redding and are out again for these. We pray for our firefighters.
I was lying in bed last night, worrying about our home/animals/kids during Tim's and my 2week vacation starting end of this month. I spoke with my son this morn..he knows where the travel cages are, he knows about writing phone # on horses hooves before cutting them loose, he knows he BETTER be brave and do what ever it takes to shove Amigo into a small cage, gather up the dogs, cats, rabbit and get the hell out!

Tell him in a worse case scenario to get a perch stick and lure Amigo out with his favorite treat. Rosie loves almonds. My hubby is her person so I transport her on a t bar perch, if she doesn't get on it the first or second time I ask I'll get out an almond and that always works.

My heart goes out to you Mare, I can't imagine the worry you must all feel during this time.

Thanks, PeachyDoll and Mr. Peeps. Amigo will not step up on a perch stick, not unless he wants to..which is NEVER! He will grab it out of your hand and either throw it or chew on it. If it came down to getting him out of his cage (without me doing it), my daughter will have to be here to do it or he's going to have to have a thick blanket thrown over him..double thick so he can't bite through it.
I have great faith in my kids, they will do a good job in case of an emergency as long as they are all here at the same time!

That sounds awfully familiar, biting the perch. Rosie does that, little bugger.
Sounds like you have a plan!
I will keep you, your family and the firefighters in my prayers. It sure is a beautiful lake and sounds like you guys had a wonderful peaceful time.
Ok, photobucket has relaxed and is allowing another photo. The fire was put out within three days,,THANK YOU MUCH TO OUR FIREFIGHTERS!! :love_heart:[Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]
