Several species of parrots are leary of new toys in their cage for the first time. I know my TAG was when ever I did this. This is not true for the Linnie birds. These birds are easily bored without new stimulation. Last evening I put a new toy in their cage and they immediately attacked it like a present on Christmas morning. How does you bird react to new toys?

It would be great to have my birds excited with new toys like your linnies are.

SPX is a typical budgie, put anything new in his cage and he will hide as far away as he can from the evil new thing.

All my budgies have been or were scared of anything new in their cage, SPX doesn't get excited about new toys when he does get use to them in his cage.. he pretty much just ignores the new toys. Recently Mr Peepers has been sitting in SPX's cage, he sits beside a purple bead toy he loves I've noticed SPX has chased the canary away from this toy and will sit there guarding it or playing with it. :th_biggrin:

Mr Peepers doesn't really play with any new toys or the other toys he has in his cage, canaries aren't really that into toys in general. He has one toy he loves, it has beads on a wire that he can slide back and forth.

This is the toy SPX will chase Mr Peepers away from. Jealous much SPX? :th_biggrin:

Casper gets most fun out of the cardboard boxes that stuff arrives in.

Sassy and Amigo have never been leery of anything new in their cage, they actually welcome the excitement of it all..and like Casper..boxes are their favorites :) Little Chip likes string and small things to shred but has never been too curious about new toys.

Oh Lady will look at new toys from afar so I have to put them where she can see them then move them in slowly. If it is a toy she has had before that she has destroyed and is the same but a replacement, then she will welcome it.

She likes to break pony beads that come on toys so if they are on it she tends to warm up to the toy a little quicker. I don't allow her to have pony beads much because I am concerned about the wear and tear it does to her beak. She has never eaten one thank God, but to much popping of them makes me uncomfortable so she gets them only once in a great while.
