View Full Version : Rosie's Wings Have Grown In

Rosie has been clipped since she was a baby. We had some disastrous flying/crashing situations in the past when her wings would grow in. So we would then have her clipped again. But she has seemed to finally grow into her body and isn't klutzy any longer. So her wings are grown in and we are going to keep her unclipped. 😊 At least that is the plan.
Miss Diva is definitely gaining more control but isn't flying a whole bunch. However, the other day we were cuddling and after a while I put her on her tree to go do something. She was not happy and tried to climb up my arm instead of getting on her tree. I finally managed to get her on her tree and walked a few feet away. I turned around, heard wings flapping and got a nice surprise. Rosie flew over to me, grabbed onto the front of my shirt, climbed onto my shoulder and did a victory dance. 😊
My first reaction was pure excitement, hugs and kisses. She is finally getting control! My second thought was Oh CRAP, I am never going to be able to get anything done. My big red stalker can now get to me whenever she wants. Lol
Rosie hasn't done it since. I am thrilled that she is able to control her flights a bit now. My baby is growing up. GO ROSIE!!!
YAY!, Rosie!! I know with Amigo being able to fly,,it takes space/room for this to be a reality. For a bird as big as Rosie to really take off and spread her wings, you better have a HUGE home! So cool, though, that she is going for it!

Its so good for them if they can learn to fly safely :)
Oh how exciting to have her come to you in flight. Go Rosie, getting control of those beautiful wings!
I couldn't imagine a bird that big throwing herself at me! :). That's got to be so special! When Amigo first started to surprise me by landing on my shoulder while I'm walking around the property, he would literally CRASH land into the back of my head! He has developed a lot more finesse since those early days and does pinpoint landings!
When you say..
"My first reaction was pure excitement, hugs and kisses. She is finally getting control! My second thought was Oh CRAP, I am never going to be able to get anything done. My big red stalker can now get to me whenever she wants. Lol"...
You better believe it!! :)
Congratulations Rosie (and Kendra)!!! :encouragement:

Thanks everyone!
Rosie kind of crashed/grabbed the front of my shirt. I think we were both pretty surprised. I can imagine Amigo crashing into your head, Mare. How funny, I bet you were both shocked by the impact. 😊
Yes, Kendra! We were both shocked! He fell to the ground and I picked him up to put him where he should be..on my shoulder :). Rosie will get better!

She flew off her recliner today and landed in the kitchen on the back of a chair. She looked so proud of herself. We were both super excited. It's the little things...
Oh and how practice makes perfect!

Rosie has been practicing her flying.
This week something startled her and she flew off the recliner we were on in the family room. She flew into the kitchen and headed towards Jef. My husband, no fan of Rosie and seeing a big red tornado coming at him covered his head with both hands and ducked. Rosie landed on the floor next to him. It was actually pretty funny to watch. A couple nights ago I made soup and sat on the couch to eat it. The dogs were begging on the floor and Rosie was begging from her tree. I ignored them all and tried to eat my dinner without sharing for once. Ha!! Rosie was not going to put up with that selfish behavior. I got about two spoonfuls before she launched and flew. She landed on the couch next to my head. I was pretty impressed and so was she. So I ended up bringing her back to her tree and giving her some noodles from the soup. The dogs got the rest bc it is always Even Steven here and they expect nothing less. I ended up eating something else for dinner. ;)

It sounds like your husband is not only not a fan of Rosie... but that he may be afraid of her as well (to a point at least). Not that he would likely ever admit such fear. But sometimes actions speak louder than words ;). That's indeed quite a funny scenario - sorry Jef!
Good going on the development of your flight skills, Rosie!!!

Its a sign of a good home for your pets when Mom or Dad give up their dinner for their fids/critters happily.
I picture Kendra sitting in front of the tv trying to quietly eat soda crackers without anybird/dogs seeing or hearing. :th_biggrin:

Tony - Jef were certainly afraid when she was flying at him. It is quite a sight to see those wings flapping at you, not to mention they are attached to a crazy bird who doesn't have her flight skills down yet. 😀
Mr Peepers - what you picture isn't far from the truth. I haven't eaten a meal all to myself since before kids. Now that the kids are no longer interested the dogs and Rosie have taken over. I generally get about 1/2 of my plate at dinner.
