View Full Version : Prepare to be shocked and outraged :'(
This tops the disturbing things that I've seen humans do. It's a morbidly cruel practice that needs to be acknowledged by all and hopefully somehow eliminated. I find it sickening and heart-crushing beyond measure. But it happens to be reality and it's such a tragically important matter that it deserves as much attention as possible. What these poor birds are subjected to is pure and absolute horror :'(

Bottled birds: How callous smugglers cram cockatoos into plastic bottles to get them through customs
More than 24 endangered Yellow-crested cockatoos were rescued by police
Smugglers stuffed them in bottles to get through customs in Indonesia
Critically endangered cockatoos can be sold for as much as £650 each
Around 40 per cent of birds die during the illegal smuggling process

I would like to stick the people who do this in the bottles.
I have no word for the kind of people that would do this, it is beyond dispicable. I wonder what the consequences are for someone who does this? I'm guessing,,a slap on the hand. If it were up to me..their hands would be cut off!

If it were up to me..their hands would be cut off!If it were up to me, the perpetrators would be buried alive! The penalty is likely up to the country and its laws. Forty percent of smuggled birds die. And I'm sure the remaining sixty percent sustain deep emotional/psychological damages :'(

The poor little poppets. UK customs and excise (or whatever they are calling themselves this week) do great work against animal smugglers and have special units at airports to care for all sorts of creatures. Its a shame that there is not the same vigilance at the points of departure.
I hope the crims get put in a cage for the rest of their lives. It would be a fitting punishment.

OMG that is so difficult to even look at. Inhumane treatment. So lets go find these people and stuff them into bottles. In addition to the Indonesian people that put the birds into bottles others transported them that way. Makes me so sick.

I feel like I am going to be physically ill. Those poor, poor creatures. Just disgusting that people feel it is ok to do this to another living creature!
Jean-Pierre: So sadly, 40% of these birds die. They are literally inserted/compressed into potential death capsules. Birds need considerably more air when under stress. And these birds are undoubtedly terrified. They not only don't have room to expand their air sacs to gain the extra oxygen they require due to their extreme stress... they have even less than no room because of their interference fit into the plastic bottles. They are literally squeezed into a space that's narrower than their bodies. It's no wonder that so many of them perish.
My personal view is that the appropriate penalty for these perpetrators should be the same as if their victims were human children. I'm sorry if that offends anyone but there is no difference between the two situations in my view. These victimized birds are innocent, beautiful beings. They are being tortured to death for human gains, and it's absolutely sickening!
How can people stoop so low. This is horrifying, and truly heart breaking. No punishment will bring those beautiful birds who lost their life back but I agree that a heavy punishment should be given to show that this treatment is sadistic. I always thought and eye for an eye was a good idea.

Tony, I agree, and I hope those birds that survived were not kept in the bottles just for the press conference.
Tony, I agree, and I hope those birds that survived were not kept in the bottles just for the press conference.Yes, that's a great concern of mine as well. The appearance is that the authorities were more interested in documenting the crime than in immediately saving the birds who were still alive (suffering beyond imagination :'(). In our world, it's the procedures and protocols that seem to be granted priority much of the time :(

Its a catch 22. If the birds survive at all and let back into the wild they will only be caught again and again. It may be the Indonesian Cockatoo is doomed to disappear from the land. They will also be emotionally scared for life. Its really hard to get this out of your mind. I had a bad dream about it last night. There is even a video showing some of this but it is truly hard to watch.

I'm going to turn into.... Idk... Anti bird smuggling bat man... And I'll punish idiots like this by reciprocating their deeds. Oh.. Stuck a bird in a bottle??? I'll put you in a 55 gallon drum.. Stole a chic from its nest.. I'll put you in a nest... Well... Hanging near a vultures nest..
Hit a bird... I hit you... Really hard..
Kill a bird... You don't need to know the rest... It'd be pretty hard to do.. But obviously the rampant areas are in South America.. Already have jungle training... It might be fun... For anyone taking this seriously... It's an "I wish I could" thing.. They need someone to stand up for them.. We have to help our friends.. Its pathetic when they're in so much danger.. Be it in the wild... Or in captivity from people who have NO CLUE how to take care of a friend.. People think dogs and cats are more valuable as far as their lives... Rats with wings... Disposable pets... That's how so many people see birds.. Oh it's sick.. I'll take it out and break it's neck...
Oh it's loud.. Let's sell it or give it away... [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35]
Some people are intelligent... Some people lack intelligence... I wish people had never gotten the idea to "keep pets".. But that's our stupid nature. Oh look how cool that looks... Let's get one.. Look how pretty that is... Oh it talks.. Let's get one!! Never mind the fact that we have no idea how to take care of it.. Or what it needs, or that fact that we wouldn't want to be put in cages.. But hell we do that to other PEOPLE TOO!! Humans... We're a depraved bunch... Yeah there those of us that do well and we try to take up the slack of the millions that hurt, and kill, and don't even blink an eye. ..but folks... We're fighting a losing battle..
I intend to fight on.. I have no problems being the only person fighting for a just cause.. Yeah I know.. I'm a bit of a hot head. I'm passionate about things like this... I know for every one we save... 100's die.. Unknown...
There's an old native American saying.. Idk what tribe. I was told this by a native American in Montana.. So possibly black feet, or crow or shoshone... Idk
When you die... You are judged by every animal you've ever encountered in your life.. So treat them well...
I only hope his words were true.. That's probably as much justice as these low lives will ever see...
I'm with you, Brandon! "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!" frickin' people.. :(

I'm sorry.. But i see this.. And i look at my flock.. And i feel like I'm failing them.. I know.. I have issues.. I know I can really only help mine.. But... With an attitude like that. It won't be long before there are hardly any of these creatures left on earth..
What can we do?..how do we change things? I sign petitions when I see them but other than that..I don't know how to help,, except to go there with my axe!!

There is a big discussion on this on AA. Many people write about the culture and poverty in the area drives these people to profit off of their treasured wildlife. The people that catch the birds make little profit. These poor birds sell to mostly Asian and European countries. I am sorry but in my mind there is no excuse for inhumane treatment of any animal.

The poverty element within certain countries in conjunction with local cultures among indigenous people are indeed contributors to many of the horrific acts imposed upon various wildlife. And you are absolutely right that there can be no excuse for treating innocent animals in such torturous and barbaric ways! :'(. Regardless of the motivations involved, torture and suffering are still torture and suffering. It makes no difference whether the victims are human, or of another species. All are sentient beings capable of experiencing terror and feeling pain. All should have the right to be free from abuse! Disturbingly, it is humans alone who are the abusers on our planet :(
