As many of you know we lost our female tres marias amazon several weeks ago.Well our male was clearly very distraught. He had been set up as a breeding bird very young by his origonal owner and hasnt been without a companion. He stopped eatting and drinking....they had even already began construction of a beautiful feathered nest in their nestbox.Im in Canada...there dont seem to be any of these...let alone anyone that would want to sell even if I could find one.So in the interest of companionship...not breeding I was able to find a 2year old yellow headed amazon.Subspecies....but similar enough that they talk to each other.Their cages are sitting right next to each other for the 19 days shes been here.So today I have the day off my other job and thought I would let her out of her cage and allow her to explore closer to his cage.Indeed she was really interested. So I opened his cage door and in she went.......straight to his food bowl...it was true love.she ate and ate and ate.The best part of the story is they arent fighting.I think he is glad to have company....although she is perpetually in motion...so he may just be dizzy watching here. All in all I believe we have a successful introduction.

Glad that they appear to be getting along.. I'd still keep an eye on em.. Amazons.. They're very quirky and reaction prone birds lol.. We love our yellow nape.. But she's quite the character..

Aww I like your story and wish I could have been there to see these two. Any photos?

By the way how did you get the name you call yourself CedarDave?

Cedardave was a stupid name I picked very simply when I needed a username many years ago.Basically ,my name is Dave and outside the window where the computer was.....you guessed it..... A pyramid cedar.Hense the name was born and never changed.Oddly enough... There is another user online with the samename....always makes me chuckle

Glad to hear about your male's new companion and that things appear to be positive so far. We'll be looking forward to updates.

I have never seen a bird have such a passion for food.....she waits for breakfast and eats with such glee.Im gonna have to be sure not to overfeed her and make sure he gets to eat

I have never seen a bird have such a passion for food.....she waits for breakfast and eats with such glee.Im gonna have to be sure not to overfeed her and make sure he gets to eatI've seen a bird like that. His name is Salsa! If I allow him to eat as much as he wants, his weight increases to no end. He reached 1700+ grams at one point (I think it was 1712g or so). My other three are terribly finicky souls. If there were a way to distribute some of Salsa's appetite among each of them, all would be well.

I'm glad your new girl is taking so nicely to things :D

Aww Dave that is so wonderful that they have had a great introduction. I'm hopeful they will become the best of friends and all will be well.
Pics would be great too, just sayin'.
