Does anyone add coconut oil to their birds food? I add just a tiny bit to Mina's pellets then top it with featheriffic or flax. I don't want to cause fatty liver disease. Now the only way I can get her to eat her pellets is to put the coconut oil on.
Also she won't eat many fruits and no veggies. I found this organic baby food with different mixtures of fruits and veggies. I found if I add it to non fat vanilla yogurt she gobbles it down. I had a friend that's a vet and she fed her Too yogurt when she was in Guam and couldn't get Benebac. What do you guys think of yogurt? She gets less than a teaspoon of it.

Casper likes unflavoured yoghurt with a bit of honey to sweeten (because that is how I have it).
He does like his fruit much more than veggies - he seems to prefer sweet tasting things. His fave veggie is a pea pod which he holds in his beak whilst splitting it open along its length. Then he holds it with one foot and takes the peas out one at a time, rolling them in his beak to remove the skin and then eating the soft centre. He seems to know what to do instinctively despite peas not being a regular feature in the Amazon rain forest.

With the grey I had I mixed the baby food with corn bread and she loved it. You can begin to cook veggies and then mix in a food processor to baby food consistency. Be careful when feeding baby food because some have higher iron content than others and our birds can get iron storage disease.

Coconut oil is great for them to have
I use coconut oil for me and our cats seem to enjoy it as well, but I haven't given any to Lady but have let her taste it on my finger. If I cook with it and Lady eats from my plate she gets it that way come to think of it.

Mina loves it so much when I mix up her food she tries to get up on me and gobble it off the stick. Spritbird thanks for the heads up about the iron I never thought of that.
