How long does it take a baby bird to hatch ? We have an egg split as if trying to hatch and a little pink naked bird showing...and do they move alot when hatching? I have lifted the box lid 2 times today and it does not seem to be moving but it has gotten wider at the split....this is first time for our birds to have chicks.

It can take up to 24 hours for them to actually hatch. A few of the babies I had hatch took about a day to fully come out of the shell. Breaking out of the shell is a marathon for a brand new chick, they get tired so they rest a few times along the way. However, if the chick is still in the shell after a day, you might need to help it out.

Sometimes they can get stuck in the shell, many things can happen and prevent them from getting out as cdog mentioned helping the baby out after a day is usually best.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've had my fair share of heartache when it comes to baby birds. Rest in peace little one.
I am praying that everything else goes smoothly. Breeding can be very rewarding!
