My husband yelled the first time he saw our Quaker, Kiwi, doing this, because he thought something was wrong with him. Now, little by little and more and more each day, he is playing with his toys in this manner. Does anyone else have a feather baby that plays like this??

That's a hoot! :D. I've not seen a Quaker enjoying so much time on its back. It's quite cute. My Hy, Zaf, likes to spend a significant amount of time on his back playing or just lounging. But he only seems to want to do it when I'm very near him. Thanks for sharing the vid! :)

Fiesta my macaw with a disability plays on her back sometimes. I don't even know how she does such things!
Sassy likes to roll on her back when playing with a hand. Kiwi acts like my dogs after having the flea drops put on their backs, itchy stuff!

We've never had a bird to do this. I just wondered if this was strange or not.. We've laughed and laughed over him [emoji23]

Spiritbird, my hubbie would go nuts if I got Kiwi a mate. You should've seen him trying to watch the WVU game today & Kiwi's yelling, 'mommy loves Kiwi, peek a boo I see you, Kiwi wants Some supper'!!! LOL ( he has sound/sensory issues anyways) and Kiwi is getting louder and louder..

Was your husband cheering his team on and Kiwi joining in the excitement? Casper does this a lot - and also we cannot have a rant about anything because he takes over and we just end up laughing.
I was surprised the first time I saw a Youtube of a bird rolling on its back whilst playing with a foot toy. I would have thought they would not do it because in the wild they would be open to attack. I can only assume that they feel totally unthreatened and relaxed when they do it.
Casper hasn't done it though. He lies on his side whilst burrowing between the scatter cushions and the sofa and we spin him around our fingers and lie him on his back and he plays with our fingers.

Yes, that is always the case!! The louder he gets over the game, the louder Kiwi gets. If we turn the TV to American Idol? Kiwi starts singing 'his song', which is 'birdies on the bus go up and down, up & down ( repeat repeat lol) all thru the town. Kiwi on the bus goes cheep cheep cheep ( you get the picture) omg, the louder we turn the tv, the louder he gets.. But it's Really Cute because we're playing music, and that's his song! Haha
I know what you mean about seeing a bird rolling on its back, because you don't get to observe wild birds doing such things. Of course they don't have their food carried to them either, so I guess they don't have as much time for fun and games, and the amount of raptors any more, they would be goners.. I've just Really enjoyed Kiwi playing like this. That yogurt box is filled with shredded paper, and he carries those balls and straws in and out of it. I did have the bottom of his cage lined with newspaper to protect his feet until he got a little older, but he started playing hide and seek in them & was yelling ALL the time, so that's where the idea of the box came in.
Casper sounds Adorable!! For him to trust you, and allow you to spin him? Huge... . I Love the name :)
They are just wonderful companions.

Casper loves to play in cardboard boxes, he chews windows in them of quite intricate designs. He also loves playing under newspapers, giggling and muttering as he moves around the room with the newspaper over him, popping out to get his bearings every so often. We let him carry on making a mess with paper and card because at least then he is not destroying the furniture or worse still the door and window frames. We have recently spent a load of money having some windows replaced with new super draft free double glazed wooden sash windows which still look like the old ones as our house has a preservation order on it. Casper would love to get his beak into them and is quite devious about it, hiding behind the curtain or pretending he is 'just' removing all the woodchips from around the base of the plants in the pots on the window sill. I think he often pretends to bite the wood frame just to get us to go and pick him up - attention seeking - just like a child.

Ok, everybody sing!
If your happy and you know it play on your back, if your happy and you know it play on your back, if your happy and you know it then your life will surly show it play on your back.
I don't see anything wrong in that little one being happy and playing on his back
