View Full Version : Where has everyone been lately?
Looks like we're in another slump as far as forum activity :grumpy:. Has no one got anything to post about?

Hi Tony
We are a few special friends, just the half dozen of us who regularly contribute. Its like having our own forum. Yet when you look at the list of names signed up there are loads of people who have joined but never posted. Are they lurking? If so its a bit like living in a goldfish bowl.
Maybe we shouldn't bombard new contributors with requests for pics etc. It may put them off. Let them get their feet under the table then zap them.

Let them get their feet under the table then zap them.Yes, Jean-Pierre... there are just a handful of folks who have been active contributors here recently, that's very true. Most of our members joined soon after our inception in 2013. Unfortunately a number of controversies arose among our staff folks, which I think may have discouraged quite a few potentially dedicated contributing members :(. And the other big factor is that most folks who were already regulars on the larger preexisting companion bird forum sites prefer to remain where most of their bird friends are, and where most of the action happens to be. It's quite unlikely for a new board to gain and maintain a sizable and active member base when the topic for that new board is covered by numerous preexisting boards which collectively already possess most of the enthusiasts on the topic :(
I'm unsure about the requests for photos. It may deter some folks and it may encourage others. You might have a point, but I think activity (or lack thereof) is the biggest attractor/discourager in this case.

Ahh, the critical mass factor. As we have such a limited active membership do we need so many subdivisions. Another forum I spend time on has basically just two: On topic and off topic. 82 members on line at the moment. Always something of interest on page one.
Ahh, the critical mass factor.Exactly. We've never been fortunate enough to attain a point of critical mass... and for the reasons mentioned, I doubt we ever will :(
As we have such a limited active membership do we need so many subdivisions.Nope. But arguably PP is not really even necessary. The current organizational structure is merely a layout that facilitates navigating the existing categories. It allows exclusion/avoidance of categories one has no interest in and makes locating threads among categories one is intrigued by somewhat easy to achieve. At least that's the idea. A merging of threads into a diverse mass is not something that I would consider helpful to our existing database.

Hey guys! Sorry I have been mia. My new job hasn't been as part time as I thought. I have been with a very sweet woman 5 hours a day 5 days a week. I am going to cut the days down starting next week. Anyway, with that and our regular crazy stuff I haven't had much time. Hoping to be on more now. :)
I've been here most days but don't really have anything new to post about :(. I will be asking for some thoughts in the training thread as I am not having much progress moving on with Lady :(. I have been reading and searching the internet for ideas that fit my time and budget.

Its a motoring based site for people who keep unloved car models going. Extra points if the car is a base model, has a patina of rust and dents and is hearing-aid beige.

I don't post much just because I don't have a bird yet. xP I read almost everything though, even the threads on big macaws and cockatoos that I won't own for years yet.
I do plan on getting my first bird (probably a cockatiel, but I've also been looking at lovebirds, parrotlets, and green cheek conures) in late May, so I'll probably start becoming more active as I get closer. :)
Hey Charlotte,
I am excited for you and am looking forward to your decision on which bird you choose or which chooses you. I hope you get the chance to visit different places where the birds you think you would like will be and get up close to them.

Two small birds sounds like a better idea than one bigger one. Casper only gets to see other parrots on YouTube or on visits to the vet. I worry about his lack of parrot friends.

I haven't been posting due to a job change taking up working out and Riley hurt herself yes she's OK just has a cut near her vent and I'm thinking the vet tech cut her nails too short cause she's had difficulty perching ever since so I have her in her hospital cage for now. Also my phone is stuck on desk top view right now And I can't get it back to mobile view which is annoying as I'm rarely on an actual computer but I keep getting that Facebook thing taking up 90% of my screen.

I'm glad she's going to be okay!
As for mobile mode... scroll down to the footer bar at the bottom of the screen and click on the drop-down menu on the left side. Within that menu, find Mobile Styles and select Default Mobile Style. That will toggle you to mobile mode. I hope that helps.

I don't know how she did it. I assume it was from falling to the bottom of her cage after the nail trim. I noticed it when she flew over to me and it looked like she had a bloody vent thankfully the cut is just near the vent.

That has got to hurt. Can you get a little Neosporin - the cream one - and put a little dab on it to help heal?
I had a little excitement this past week. On Tuesday I participated in a survey for Avian owners. We had to be willing to do 'homework' which was answering 6 questions regarding our birds and including pictures. The earth shattered and I actually, really and truly got pictures off my camera and was able to print them!!!!!!!!! It has only been probably 6+ years since I got pictures off my camera and onto the computer. The one thing I could not do was get it do download directly from the camera using the cable which plugs into the pc. That camera and cord worked when a friend loaded it to her lap top but I just pulled the card out and was able to do it that way at least.
Anyway, the survey was about new packaging for the Zupreem line of foods. For people that use that line, I suggest you watch any sales on the old packaging as they will want to get that off the shelves quickly when they transition to the new package but unfortunately we were not told when that time frame will be.
I can't get it back to mobile view which is annoying as I'm rarely on an actual computer but I keep getting that Facebook thing taking up 90% of my screen.Robyn: I believe I've fixed the Facebook slider so it won't pop out intrusively as it did.
