View Full Version : A new bird..
My sister-in-law, who brought home a pineapple conure last year, to her place in Washington., she drove to San Diego to get her...is now offering me this bird, she says she has too many animals, (I never did like the thought process of this girl). Again..Tim says he will leave me if I bring home another bird,,and again..I am tempted.
My SIL bought two Siamese kittens, definite house cats, right after she bought the bird and I'm figuring she's trying to protect her bird. I'll give her a call..

I think this is awful. She should be ashamed of herself. That is all.

Ugh! That just stinks.
I am sure Tim would be ok. It's just a little bird, it won't take up much room. Lol. But you probably shouldn't listen to me. I would have a farm here if I wasn't married to Jef. :)
Maybe it could be friends with Chip. Try telling Tim Chip needs someone his size to play with. You never know, he may be swayed. :)
Oh boy, IDK you best be sure Tim won't be to upset~ I agree it was not the best choice she could of made but maybe she should see if someone in her area would give it a good home.
I left a message and waiting for a call. I'll take the bird, Tim's gone for a week and I figure...maybe he won't notice?..
I love your logic, Kendra!
I agree with you, Jean-Pierre. If you take on an animal, come what may, you take care with that animal..till death do we part. I have a soft spot and people know this about me. I also have a "super" soft spot when it comes to maybe getting a conure :)

Consider the temperament of a GCC. You probably already are aware they are huge birds, in their mind, and will want to be the head honcho in your home. Personally, I would not do it.

Oh how cute Mare :) Big personalities in a little body . The only Too I have out [cause she stays on her cage is my LS2] when other birds are out. My Rb2 flys around and visits others through the bars. But my white males will fly and attack . So what Im saying is be careful Amigo will be jealous. But it can be done ,everyone has their "Time" with my 20. So funny with maybe your husband wont notice :).
I'm use to HUGE personalities! This bird sounds amazing. Kathy is a singer and takes this little one with her, on her shoulder, to her gigs. I feel sorry for the little one, in that sense, but she's very socialized, a cuddle bug, flys outside and if I took her in, I would keep her away from my cockatoos..I wouldn't trust them for a moment!
Still waiting to hear back from Kathy..
OK! Kathy got back to me and it looks like I'm going to have a new bird! :). She is heading to southern Cal, in a few months, for a family reunion and will bring little Nelly to me! She'll come with cage, too! I'm pretty excited! I don't think I will mention any of this to Tim..not yet, anyways. I'll keep the peace for a while longer :)

I would take her, but the only person I answer to is me which gets me into trouble sometimes. Just tell Tim that he should be mad at his sister not you. Sneaky, I know.

You could lie and say you didn't know she would bring the bird and leave it with you
Yeah, I figure if he doesn't know it's coming and Kathy just shows up with it..well..what else can we do? The little thing needs a place to live, it's already here.. (How's that sound?). I really think Tim will be good with it, he's an animal lover, likes to give me a hard time about my birds but I know he secretly loves them, most of the time :)
Alice, I don't have any pics yet but I've googled pineapple conures and their colors are amazing!
I did also, and yes I agree with you. Soooooo cute too~:gcc::gcc::gcc:
Good on you for deciding to give the little girl a new home, Mare :D. Who knows... maybe Nelly and Tim will become best friends :friendly_wink:
They truly could, Tony. Sassy has already claimed him as her mate so we will see if she shares! :) I just hope we can all get along, this is my wish!
Good news..I told Tim, he balked, I told him..again..and we are now all good :). I told him again when Sassy was in his lap being a sweet pea, life is good..at the moment,,as usual.. :)
Who else goes through these stresses about bringing home a new bird?..anyone?
Oh I can't even imagine there would be any way a new bird would be feasible atm! It is not something we are ready for, but one day hopefully :D.
Ooo, Alice, you should always expect the unexpected :)
Well, if it was unexpected.....who knows, she/he just might be something we needed :)~
You never know..
Life has thrown me some twisty turns and mostly for the better..even though I would never have known at that time.. I make the most of it!

Nice to be good there Mare. My problem is I have no one to tell me the NO word.
No doesn't necessarily mean "no", not in my house :). No, means..maybe,,no, means,,I'll think about it. No, means..ok, I give :)

That's the kind of "No" that I like. :)

We have the same thing here Mare. The only exception at this point would be bringing another living creature into our family. :)
We already have so many animals, I really don't think this new little one is going to change the balance/dynamics of our home. Once Tim discovered how small the bird is, he was just relieved to know it wasn't another U2! :)
We have..Pete, Dia, Chaco, Basil, Scooby..these are dogs. The visiting dogs are and include, Chewy, Roadie and Josie..The visiting rabbit (just until August) is Watson. We have cats, too..3 of them,,not ones we brought home or chose but love, none the less,, Chester, Moki and Sadie.
Horses, now that's another story..we've got six of them and 3 birds :)
I'm pretty sure, we need more birds!

I agree Mare! :ygg: The birds are in the minority at your house. Well, besides humans.
My son's girlfriend was telling me the other day about a potty-trained, potbelly pig, for free, in our area, and my son KNIXED IT! Not that I want one, definitely don't need one. I told his girlfriend that if Noah took back every dog he's ever laid upon us..I would gladly take on that pig! :)

I would LOVE a pig. That is the next animal on my list...then a hairless cat (my son is allergic) Ashie keeps requesting a teacup pig. Jef is adamant if either animal shows up, he is moving out. Lol! ; )
Omg, Kendra! Same ol' story! What's wrong with these men!?

It's torture I tell ya! Lol
I suppose if we lived 120yrs. ago, they would be looked upon as a food souce and therefore, welcomed! :)
