It is COLD here in central NJ today. When we woke up it was 1°, which is unheard of here.
My family room is on a slab and bt that and all the windows it is too cold to hang out in unless we have a fire going. Since Rosie's favorite hangout spot - her java tree - is there, fire it is. We are down to our last few pieces of wood...waiting on a delivery. Hoping it lasts until bedtime.
So the fire is for Rosie, and since it is past 5, the dacquari is for me. [emoji6] Cheers to keeping toasty warm from the Fitz Farm!!

I love that pic. Very nice and cozy looking. Md. and NJ are not too far from each other so your weather is close to my weather.
We are getting more snow now. I am sure Rosie would love a non-alcoholic daiquiri along with her fire warmth.
I say May get here fast please. Enough snow and cleaning the car off.

Gee you easterners... I feel for you :(. May you all stay warm enough and get through this frigid spell!
Kendra: You're not roasting cats, are you? (I'm j/k ;)) That dark object on the right in your fireplace resembles a cat's head to me :th_scared4:

Tony - LOL...no cats. Just wood and Rosie's paper/dropped food.
Dianne - we are supposed to get some as well. None yet.
Terri - Do you have as much as Boston? I have seen pics from friends and it is just CRAZY!!
Stay warm and dry all!!
No comment!! :)

Mare - even though you need rain, I don't think you should be jealous! We got snow dumped last night, we are out of wood and it's freezing. So no java tree for Rosie today. She is not happy and sharing her feelings about it LOUDLY. [emoji33]

I really do feel for you guys back there, I was just kidding around :). What we need is a snow pack in our Sierra Nevada's. Will the wood delivery be able to make it through to deliver? I just had a thought, for Rosie, (I do this with Amigo when he wants out so badly on very cold days). I let him out, he decides it's too cold and comes right back to his cage wanting in, his choice! I'll bring him back in and he's perfectly happy being there :). Birds are pretty smart!

Mare - I will give it a try. She is being really rough today. Super rough physically, trying to destroy my couch through the towels and screaming incessantly. My daughter is in tears and I am at the end of my rope. Jef is taking Ash sledding on his lunch hour and I just want to lock myself in my room with earplugs. So maybe just letting her be cold but on her tree will help. Sigh...
Hoping the guy comes but he is a local guy. He said maybe this past Saturday or early this week. So at this point I guess it depends on if he can (& wants to) get the wood, load it and deliver it in the snow and frigid temps. It's still snowing, but not horribly. My fault for waiting so long to call.
Aww..I wish you luck, good wishes coming your way..for wood AND Rosie!

Fingers crossed. She is happily and quietly napping on her tree. She is not a napper, so I guess all the screaming and acting out tired her out. Lesson learned, unless I can see my breath, I will let her go to her tree.
She will let you know if she get's too cold. I KNOW all the info about not changing the temp too fast and all the bad feelings sent from people about these things. You have a healthy, opinionated bird there and she will let you know her tolerance :)

She was happy on her tree. But she was mad and held a grudge. When it was time for bed she wanted nothing to do with me and let me know I am on her list. Never keep a girl from her favorite hangout spot. Hopefully she will forgive me by tomorrow morning. ;)
She'll get over it! Did you get the wood for fires?
Wow, and holy moly..I just saw how many hits you got on this site, Kendra. This is from parrot bird folks. These people need to come out! Come out and be a voice! Come on you fearful folks..come on..

No wood yet. Hoping today...
Oh I love looking at snow covered trees and nature, but I must agree it has been colder here than I ever remember, and the wind is not helping at all.
Today is a bit warmer, I think it is 31F outside at the moment. Snow showers later on this evening and down to 14 degrees. Looks like tomorrow we'll have a high of 17 and wind gust up to 40mph.
Hoping you will receive an extra load of wood for your wait~

JEALOUS!!!
It is freezing and started snowing this afternoon and isn't slowing down. I think we have about 5 new inches so far.
....and shocker....no wood delivery. Jef called this morning and the guy is having truck issues. So maybe Monday. We got some wood at Shoprite but it is almost gone.
Ready for Spring!!!

Its been snowing all day here in Maryland and we now have a good 9 inches on the ground and still coming. Its getting to look like "where is my car?"
I still love the snow, and yes, snowing here today also. We just finished shoveling and it is beginning to turn to freezing rain. Winter warning till 1 a.m. :snowsmiley:. At least the Arctic blast has moved on so it isn't as cold.
Any wood yet Kendra? I hope so even tho it is a bit warmer today it's always good to have it in storage.

Well, the firewood guy said he was absolutely going to come by noon today. That was after I called last night (he said it would be here last night) and asked if I should order elsewhere. It is now 11:30 and I am beginning to wonder if he was pulling my leg. So annoying bc we are waiting around for him and I am itching to get out. Fingers crossed that we will have a roaring fire tonight!!
Wishing you luck, girlie! :). We are finally getting a cold front dropping in on us, some rain and snow in the mountains..whoohoo!
Well it is almost 3p.m. and I hope you now have your wood. If not I would get it somewhere else!

The firewood was delivered at noon...on the dot. WOOOHOOO!
Now Rosie and I can hang in her favorite spot again! Poor Jef is out putting the wood away while we are nice and toasty warm. :)

Happy days are here again!! :). What type of wood is that? We burn oak, manzanita and pine out here.
kendrafitz
02-28-2015, 11:49 PM
I honestly don't know. It comes from a guy who does tree removal so I am guessing it is a mixture. I am not familiar with manzanita, is it slow burning? I think the last cord was pine, it burned really quickly. We went through a cord in a little over 3 months. Which is insane...we usually get a year out of it.
Pine burns quickly but leaves little ash. Manzanita is a super hard wood and is our fave for long nights. Oak is amazing, also. The harder the wood, the longer the burn/warmth.
Tim cuts our wood and I help load it into the truck..then we stack it. Old pros going on here :)

We had a truckload of logs delivered yesterday which, along with some other logs that magically appear on the driveway from people who do not have open fires but do have trees in their gardens, means we have full loads in both sides of the inglenook. That should ensure that we don't get a relapse into winter although there was the briefest shower of sleet just before the delivery arrived.

A mix of ash, beech, birch, cherry, oak and some other unknown stuff some of which was saffron yellow below the bark when I cut it up with the chainsaw.
The cherry has been set aside for when guests come.
