I read an interesting article from 2011, posted by Reuters, about a researcher in Australia who has come to the conclusion that parrots tend to be left footed. I haven't really noticed whether Lady is or not so I am wondering if you have noticed this about your bird(s).

Here is a link to the article in case you would like to read it yourself. It is a quick read.

Amigo and Sassy are definitely left footed when it comes to picking up food to eat! Sassy will always lift her left foot to step up. Amigo IS left footed and sometimes, because his right foot is closer to my hand, he will step up with his right foot but it is a noticeably weaker foot.

That's an interesting question, Alice. Most parrots are in fact left-footed. Maynard is my only right-footed bird. I started a thread on this very topic early last year: [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]

Not Orsino, that's his bad foot. Come to think of it, I think Rose mostly uses her left, but I have seen her use her right too... Dori's just a weirdo, she just doesn't pick up her food no matter what so I have no way of knowing. But she hangs upside-down from her cage door evenly on both sides :D

Well I was just to curious to wait and researched pics of Lady from the last few years as well as watched her tonight when we spent time together and yes, she too uses her left foot more than her right.

I read the thread you linked Tony,(thanks for that), I seemed to of missed it or forgot that I read it.

I think it is great that we have both right footed and left footed because how boring it would be if everyone was the same :).
