Happy Birthday Roxy

Today is the real Roxynoodle's birthday (not me, but rather my little mare). She was born at 5am and it was a cold first day of May, only about 30F that morning.

She is half Appaloosa and half Thoroughbred. It's hard to believe she is 17 today! The years have gone by so quickly!

She's always been a very silly and playful horse, so one day I called her "Roxy Noodle Head". That quickly became "Roxy Noodle Horse". I knew she liked it because she squealed and kicked up her heels. So it stuck, lol! Her registered name is actually Rocket Raven, but she knows herself as Roxy or Roxynoodle.

Here is a pic from the day she was born, sleeping in my lap. I'm sorry I don't have any adult pics of her on this computer. I need to take some. Right now she is half in her winter coat and half shed out and looks rather odd, so once she is shed out and sleek again I will take more photos.

I do have this pic on my computer as well from when she was about 2 months old. My friend was amazingly NOT injured, but this is why you don't play "chase" with baby horses!

She's a beauty! I found out the hard way w/my babies on why you don't make pets out of them. They're too big not to have limits. :)

Ok, I do have some photos on here from last summer. We had quite the drought last year so no rain = no grass, lol!

The first one is Roxy. The second one is my other horse, Malone. They look very much alike. Roxy is a dark seal brown and Malone is a black Thoroughbred who fades in the sun. Malone is 32 years old now, but still a vibrant and good looking guy who doesn't look his age.

Happy Birthday Roxynoodle! Gotta love them baby horses! We've had a few Quarter horses dropped around here and there's nothing more precious, except maybe a pinheaded cockatoo baby!

The one thing that gives Malone away age wise are his teeth. He definitely has old horse teeth, although he hasn't had any fall out, unlike most old horses. But, the last time I had a 30 year old horse she looked like one. She had the sway back and moved slowly. Malone looks much better at his age than she did. But, every day I have with him is a blessing as 24 is the average for horses.

Malone is beautiful! Especially for his age! Here is a pic of my daughter's retired reining horse/lawn mower, Casey. He is 30yrs old. We feed him the senior feed, twice a day, trying to keep his weight up, he's been vet checked, recently, and told he is just getting old.

I give Malone some of the senior feed as well to keep his weight up. Once they get to his age, there just isn't anything more that can be done for their teeth. No vet or equine dentist will touch them anymore. The senior feed has worked well though for both him and the last old horse I had. If worse becomes worst you can soak it in warm water and make it into a mash.

Aww..it is wonderful and heartwarming to know you have all cared for them into their senior years, instead of casting them off like so many do.
