Today I had a friend contact me, she owns a salon in town. I'm a hairstylist by trade but have been on my own for six years now, private clients, only. I love what I do and I especially love being free to make my own time to work. My friend asks me if I would join her salon, she says, "I would fit like a glove". I miss the comradery of a salon, I really do. As much as I would love to go back to that, I just can't,,not with my commitments to my birds/animals. If I had to, for financial reasons, I surely would have to..but I don't, so I think I may as well be happy dealing with my critters :) I know this is a non-life changing choice but does anyone else have these kinds of silly struggles?

Reads like you have already decided not to go back. If you really miss this could you do a few hours a week like 4 hours one day?
I think your birds would be OK for that amount of time.

I'm still kickin' the idea around, Dianne :). I could handle 2-3 days a week, I'm just hesitant about committing to it.

I get what you are saying. It sounds like it would be fun, but it can be hard to make a commitment to a firm schedule. Plus, if things are good, deciding to add something else that can "rock the boat" can be daunting.

I know I think I would like to get a part time job, but then I wonder if it would work with everything I have going on here. So I just keep going back and forth on it.

I guess you would only know for sure if you tried it. A couple of days a week probably wouldn't rock the boat too much.

What about temporary, just to see if it still makes you feel the way it once did?

Thanks for the feedback ladies :). I like the thought of going back but I am happy doing what I do without being in a shop, too. Me being gone more would also cut into Amigo's outside time. I talked to Tim about it and he justs says to do what I think is best, for me, although he thought 2days a week would be plenty. I'll think about it for awhile, maybe stop in to visit my friend at her salon and see how it feels. You're right, Kendra, committing to a firm schedule after having the freedom that I have now, might be hard.

Make a polite refusal and see if she ups her offer by 50%. Anything less, stay home, stay happy.

Terri, I was hoping you would chime in, I wanted to hear your view, thanks. I love doing hair, as I'm sure you do, full time is a grind, for sure. Today I spent some time at one of my client's homes and at this point , my clients are like family..we know each other so well, they ask me to help with hair on their friends and fam, I don't lack for work..I think I will continue to continue...:)

I need a haircut if you are passing south-east England on your way to the shops.

Hey Mare,
Why do you think that the models for hairstyles hardly ever have glasses? I guess it isn't that a person who wears glasses couldn't have a type of style or cut but I was always wondering why? Would you happen to recommend any type of program that someone could use to put their face on or in a pic of a hairstyle? Just curious..

Hi, Alice, my guess as to the reason why hairstyle models don't wear glasses would be, the glasses may distract attention from the hairstyle. I know there are programs out there for what you are asking, I just don't know of one right off. I'll check into it, though!

Hi Mare,
Thanks for your answer. I never thought of the glasses being distracting to the style but sure that sounds reasonable. Glasses frames can be quite nice and some very expensive. You don't have to look into it, I was just thinking you might of already have heard or known someone who might of tried a program of that sort.

I like to go into the hair salon and say ok ladies, you have all done my hair at different times, got any new ideas that you might think would work well for me and my lack of time to get my hair ready for work each morning. I need to visit them soon, my style has long grown out and it is in that half way point when it looks like I don't know what to do with it, and rightfully so because I don't :p.

My suggestion to you, Alice, find some styles you like in magazines. Styles that you could wear with your hair type. Some folks have curly or wavy thick hair, some have very fine straight hair. Find some photos that are your type, that you like and show them to your stylist. This always made it easier for me :)

Alice - I generally do the same with my stylist. I just tell her to do whatever she feels like. I love change and get bored easily. I figure it's just hair and if I dont love it, I can always change it. I tried a completely new color last time (an ombre) and my family hated it. So I changed back to blonde this time but I put a strip of purple in a peek a boo spot. Jef doesn't love it, but I think it's fun. If you trust your stylist and they are current, it can be fun to let them.take the reigns.

When I was young I was a hairdresser for a short time. The one thing I loved was seeing all the trendy styles and trying them out.

Thanks Mare and Kendra,

I always have pics that I put on my phone then ask questions about whether or not my hair can turn out like the style do to it's texture and being baby fine. Most of the time I tell them what I like about each of the pics and let them come up with something.
I have never had my hair dyed with permanent hair color because it is too much up keep for someone like me and I like my natural color. But I sure have fun with the wash out colors. Maybe in the summer I'm thinking of getting some highlights, but we'll see.
