I have found that when Lady is noisy and I whisper to her it helps sometimes. But when she is quiet and I whisper to her she makes cute noises and sometimes will chatter away in a soft voice but I don't understand what she is saying.
Has anyone else done this? What do you think is happening?

I have not, but I will try it.

It may be the same thing that happens with children. I know when you really want toddlers/preschoolers to listen, whispering works. It makes them stop and really pay attention so they can hear what you say.

Also, maybe Lady thinks you are whispering sweet nothings to her, enjoys it and is doing it back? So sweet!!

Salsa is a big whisperer when the lights go off. I'll walk over to him and he looks at me and begins whispering. It's a very distinct human whisper, but I usually can't tell what he's trying to say to me. He enjoys it though. And lights off time in the evening seems to always be his cue to begin these whispering sessions. I'm guessing that Terrie must have whispered to him a lot in the dark. When Sals does this, I usually whisper back to him and we end up holding a conversation in whisper speak for a bit :)

Zaf whispers a perfect "hi" to me... also when the lights are off. He plants his head to one side and fixes his gaze upon me, then whispers the clearest "hi" you've ever heard. He then plants his head in another position, keeping his gaze fixed upon me, and whispers "hi" again. He usually does this 3 or 4 times in a row. I always whisper "hi" back to him.

Aw that is so cute Tony. I have heard others say that when they whisper their birds will also be softer sounding.

The Sassy girl is our whisperer, at night when she's getting covered for the night. She came to us like this, her past human said some sweet things to her in a whisper, always makes me smile and whisper back :)

Donovan is the only one who whispers here. He learned it in his previous home, he will whisper hi or go peek, peek, peek-a-boo when the lights are off.

That must be so cool :D

Rose will always whisper "night-night" to me if she's covered up and I get up to get a glass of water or anything. Kind of like she's saying "gosh mom, go to bed!" I was told that it's in a bird's nature to try and mimic the volume of their flock, like the louder the humans get then the louder the bird will be. At least that's what I heard, that they like to compete when it comes to noise and see who can be the loudest, but if you're not trying then they'll get the hint that it's not a competition, it's time to be quiet. But that's a sure-fire way to get my big silly-beaks to quiet down, start whispering at Rose and she'll stop screaming.
