View Full Version : Just bought a lovebird and I am worried
Hello,
I just bought a love bird yesterday its 11 weeks old and right now all he does is sleep and sit very still. He wouldn't eat or drink until I raised the bowl up. Now he at least eats. Am I worrying about nothing? Is he still adjusting and is this his way of doing that? I did let him out of his cage and fly around my room a bit but even then he just picks a spot and sits there.
Thanks in advanced!

Get him to the vet to be on the safe side. The sleeping all the time worries me. Ive had a couple of birds that Ive brought home that have taken awhile before Ive really seen them eating and drinking . I think their scared . Good Luck :)

Josh congratulations on the new baby. I agree with Terri just to be safe take him to a avian vet ASAP to be checked out. It might be nothing to worry about but better safe than sorry. Give him time to settle in after all he is still a baby and may just be stressed out with the new home and changes. But again get him to a vet just to be sure and safe. Good luck and please post some pictures of him.......we would love to see him.

When you bring a new bird home for the first time they tend to "freeze" as in nature so no predators will attack them. Just give him time and patience he will come around. Have a calm environment and speak in soft tones to him. Do not attempt to take him out of the cage while he is frightened. A wellness check is usually in order with an avian vet after a few weeks of getting used to you and his new home. What did you name him? Make sure he gets enough quality sleep with no human noises like TV or music for 10 to 12 hours.
Hi Josh :th_welcome2:to the forum and :congrats5: on your new baby.
I would also like to see some pics after you talk with the avian vet about your little one. I don't like to give advice about new babies, b/c I never had one so little, but I also think it is always a great idea to speak with a avian vet to be sure that he/she is checked by a professional. Keep us posted on how things work out for you both. It is always nice to chat another bird person, and you will find quite a lot of experienced people here on P.P.

Yep, if a couple of vet visits a year were not in your birdy budget you need to revise it. Once he/she has been checked and given the OK you can get insurance to cover any future "surprises".
