Yesterday I drove to Frederick, Md. to get my new Linnie. After having him for 24 hours I have to say this was a rescue not just a sale. His former owner handed me his "pellets" he was being fed and it was a jar of Kaytee mixed seeds with lots of sunflowers inside. He was in a basement apartment, not getting any natural or electric light at all. Plus no name given to him.
He is totally untrained. I took him in the bathroom just to assess his flying ability and he has very weak wings so I am thinking he never got to free fly. On the positive side he is so pretty and he is a blessing to our home. He is eating his greens today which makes me happy. Linnies enjoy climbing and that he is doing. He has a little sleep hut which I will replace with a safer one with no fuzz. Loves his toys. Here is his first photo.....2573

Very cute.
Welcome to a true home Kobe! Your new Mom will be a blessing to you as she teaches you how to enjoy the natural things in life. I hope you are patient with your big sister, some of us older generations are settled in our ways but I'm sure you will learn to adjust to those ways.
Looking forward to all the adventures you will be sharing about your little guy and how he completes your family!

I have been giving Daisy some extra special attention during this new bird time. They called to each other this morning.

His bottom beak has turned green from eating kale. I actually took it out of the cage in fear he was eating too much. Kobe is now sitting in full spec. lighting and taking a nap at the same time.

Kobe met Daisy for the first time today and I managed to get this on video. Daisy has always been a "bossy" bird and I have no expectations of the two of them being buddies. Just good company I hope. She was in her usual spot on the Queens perch top of jungle gym and Kobe was climbing up to meet her. When he got there she immediately let him know who was boss. I think he got the idea because he let her be just like Chipper did when she was bossing him. This was Kobe's first free flight in an open room and he really did quite well. Absolutely loved the gym climbing. He is not finger trained yet so I had to catch him after 2 hours or so which I really do not like to do. Kitty had been in the bedroom too long.

Update 01/08 In the beginning Daisy was nasty to Kobe. Now she just cannot live without him. When they are both out of the cage she follows him or he follows her. I have been having trouble getting him back into his cage. So today I laid a millet spray on the entry way. Daisy was sitting with him on top of his cage. I got a phone call so my attention was not on them. Next I look the millet had fallen in the cage and they were both in there. She must have led him in the cage. I think it is soon to leave them in a cage together so I took her out.
Kobe is a great eater. He not only eats a broccoli plant he eats all the stem and leaves and devours kale like it is his best friend. Yesterday his droppings were pure green. I am introducing the small sweet red peppers but so far no go.
I have a 90 year old neighbor that instantly fell in love with Kobe and he with her. He gives her kisses right on the lips and does not give me any. What's with that? She said to me "Dianne don't you know grandmas always get the kisses" Must be true cause I am not a grandma.
Kobe is still afraid of my hands so he must have come with that fear. Will continue to work on that.

OK are you ready for this! I surely was not. Daisy is masturbating on Chippers favorite toy now making little squeaky sounds. Now I know Kobe has been a big hit with her. She never did this with Chipper, not even once.

Such great news about their new friendship. I am so excited for you all!
Very funny about Daisy's new pastime with Chippers toy.
So glad to hear about the positive development with Kobe and Daisy, Dianne :D

This morning Daisy paid a visit to Kobe and she forgot to knock on his door. Oh well, she went right for his food dish but he did not seem to mind.

Later on I turned on the wild bird sounds on You Tube to entertain them. They both want to join in with the bird flock.

I'm very happy to know they're getting along so well :). Kobe is such a pretty blue bird with big dark button eyes <-- I have one who fits that description, too :D. Daisy's eyes look like little dots compared to Kobe's. It reminds me of the same contrast between Zaf's eyes and Salsa's eyes. As an example, look at both of them perched together on the PP banner. Eye size can certainly vary from species to species!
Thanks for sharing, Dianne!

Sometimes you can't see Daisy's eyes at all for that big english style head. Good observation about avian eyes.
Kobes adopted grandmother is designing him a sleep but without fuzzies. Those two hit it off from Moment 1. At least he is giving me kisses now. Still working on his fear of hands.
