I recently finished a super soft furry baby blanket I started a few years ago. Even though it is on the small side, my daughter asked if she could have it. So I washed it and put it on the couch for her to use when she got home from school.

My silly dog Teddy discovered it and claimed it for himself. He is constantly cuddling in it. So my daughter sweetly said it was his and requested I make her another.

So the blanket has been Teddys for a few weeks now. The other night, I grabbed it and put it on since it was chilly. Rosie, who never shows an interest in any blanket fell in love. She was moving it around, cuddling with it and started digging as if she was making a nest.

Teddy, who was upstairs at the time is not aware of this new development. So, to keep the peace and everyone in one piece, I will make her highness a small blanket of her own.

You know your life has gone past the point of absolute ridiculousness when you make blankets for not only a dog, but a parrot!!!! And still don't have one for yourself finished. ;)

So have any of you done something that you consider ridiculous to make your feathered friends happy? I am really hoping I am not the only wackadoo out there. ;)

So have any of you done something that you consider ridiculous to make your feathered friends happy? I am really hoping I am not the only wackadoo out there. ;)Don't forget, Kendra, you're among people who really love their birds here :). I would say that you're either not a "wackadoo" ...or that we're all a bunch of wackadoos. But since everything is relative, any answer rendered by your question will most likely reflect the mindset of whom you've asked ;). I recently bought Zaf a brand-new large metal pet crate (for $554) and then modified it to serve as his new play-cave/fort area... and of course he as well has his own couch here. I'm sure many folks consider that wackadoo-ish. But I love Zaf and I want him to be happy.

I have a response question for you, Kendra. Why should doing such special things for a cherished parrot be looked upon any differently than doing similar special things for a cherished dog or cat? After all, each of them is a beloved family member! Right?

It's wonderful that Rosie now has a nice blanket to cuddle with :). Just be careful that she doesn't ingest small bits of it. Cloth fibers can ball up in the crop and cause complications down the road. I'm glad to know that she's enjoying her new possession, though :D

Oh wow, that is a good point about the fibers. I will watch that. Thanks!

I haven't started Rosies mini blanket yet, but I will have to soon. Bailey, my other dog is now laying on Teddys blanket. I have to get moving before the three start competing for Teddys prized possession. ;)

Ahh...I see Zaf is a spoiled guy as well. Lucky little blue dude!!

Personally, I don't think it is different to do things for a parrot vs. a dog/cat, or any other pet. I am not always clear, but what I was trying to say was it is ridiculous to make blankets for any of my spoiled animals. Especially since I have been working on a blanket for myself and not finishing it for the last few years. I am sure any non animal people would think I am kooky.

Understood. There's sure nothing wrong with it in my view. In fact, I personally feel that it's incumbent upon pet guardians/family members to accommodate the happiness of their feathered or furry companions :D

Some folks just call it spoiled, altho I don't see it that way. They get what makes them feel special, after all you made the blanket so it is special. No, I must agree, I don't see you or anyone who takes extra care in keeping their animal happy as anything but wonderful. As parents of pets we show them how much we care about them in all areas, physically, mentally and emotionally. That's what good parents do, we put their needs and or wants above ours most of the time!

Hope you do eventually get to make yourself one :).

Holy Moly!, Kendra, let me count the ways!! BTW, you do beautiful crochet!

#1. They tend to take over my life with their needs
#2. They are my life and sometimes I wish I had another
#3. They are my life and couldn't imagine a better (unless you want to include Basil not being in it)

Thanks Mare, it's just single stitch. Nothing fancy. ;)

I am so happy that I am not alone in being owned by my parrot!!!!

That blanket looks so soft and cuddly. Who wouldn't want it?

Spoiled rotten? Maybe. But so what.

My goffins loves to play in my beanies soo when she is out she gets one of my hats on the bed to play in and then its usually covered in white so that may be crazy to some people.

I will share a plate of food with any of my birds not problem at all.

I've adapted stuff that would better suit me for the birds, for example I coulda saved the money buying cheaper cookware, but I bought stainless steel for the birds safety. Just little things like this. And of course when they would be happy with something I usually give them what they are happiest with.
