Love Pinches

Rosie has started something new in the last month or so.

When she is kissing me, she also gives me pinches. She puts her cheek on my cheek and pinches my cheek with the side of her beak. I think they are love pinches, but I am not positive. If she is excited and is rough, I tell her gentle. She still does it, in between kisses, but more gently.

Does anyone else have experience with this? Is it affection, or am I reading her incorrectly?

Oh I have no idea, but it sounds sweet. I hope I can teach Lady to be gentle. I tell her nice, and praise her when she is. Pinching, with the side of her beak I have never experienced.

That does sound sweet, Kendra :). Although I trust my Amigo with my life,, I've seen the damage he can do with that beak, not just on wood but human flesh. Therefore, I hold back a bit from snuggles on my face..just a little :)

Salsa enjoys pinching out of affection a bit, too. I often have to remind him to lighten up a bit. He's a busy bird who has tons of energy and a will to show his feelings as he sees fit ;)

Tony -- does Salsa pinch with the side of his beak? I tried to get a video of her doing it this morning, but she didnt perform on command. ;)

Rosie is a girl who also has a lot of energy. She is almost never still. I sometimes wish she was a bit more chill. ;) I wonder if that is a GW thing?

Kendra- The short answer is yes. But he usually pinches with the tip of his beak (only because he has greater control there). I've experienced a few of his side pinches, though. He can be quite a pinchy red guy at times ;)

When I kiss my Macaws side of their beaks [they lick me with their tongue ] so cute !!!! . But I know to the little pinch your talking about Kendra.

Do your macaws do the side beak pinches as well? I think it is affection and I am hoping I am right.

I know what your talking about with the side pinch . It wasn't a mean thing [I cant remember who did it]. Porscha is a delight . We are at week one today . I feel so blessed shes so sweet and gentle. Shes funny, talks a lot and is giving kisses :)

I'm so happy for you both. How is Ruby adjusting to Porscha? Is she ok with another GW loving her Mom?

Well ive shown her to Ruby [and Ruby isn't trying to attack the bars.] So that's good :) They hear each other laughing across the house and will laugh together [Its funny].

Toby our Greenwinged female does a lot of side pinches to.. mainly on my face/ ears when she is getting very happy.

Thank you Justin! I just wanted to be sure it was a positive thing. Since Rosie is my first and only bird, it is a lot of learning as we go. I usually am able to read her fairly well, but I like to be sure. :)
