View Full Version : what happened?
Hey... liven up everyone! :D
First, I know that it's currently holiday time. And I understand that with such being the case it can create certain priorities as well as pose some serious time constraints for many of us. But you still may wish to reserve a few minutes each day for briefly checking in with your PP freinds... if only to say "hi, how is everyone and their birds?" :). Quick one-liner posts are always welcome here! :eagerness:
Sounds like a good idea! How is everyone doing? Hope your birds are happy and well too~

I am beginning to feel the elements of SAD kicking in. That stands for seasonal affective disorder. Cannot do the light therapy because of migraine headaches from bright lights. I am on medication for this. February is the worst month.
I am beginning to feel the elements of SAD kicking in. That stands for seasonal affective disorder. Cannot do the light therapy because of migraine headaches from bright lights. I am on medication for this. February is the worst month.I'm very sorry that you're forced to cope with that, Dianne :(. I know the effects can be quite powerful. I surely hope you're medication helps and that you're able to gain some good relief in the coming months.
HI! You're going to be sorry you asked over this one, Tony :(. My daughter's old reining horse has been with us, on our property for years. Went down to feed, this morning and his left eyeball is laying on his cheek, blood all over the side of his face, socket dripping. Poor SOB poked it out on a branch, gross, I know and so sorry for him. My daughter is on her way over and off to the vet we go.
I'm so sorry you are feeling blue, Dianne. Does it help if you could get outside for a bit of a walk? Exrercize is a cure-all for me when I'm feeling down. I know what you suffer from is different, just wondering. I hope it doesn't hit you too hard.
Mare: that's terrible! The poor horse... it has to be excruciatingly painful for him :(. The eyes are extremely sensitive to pain from mere minor irritants; I can't imagine the suffering involved with a horrific injury like this. I hope the vet is able to quickly reduce his level of pain. Animals are typically unable to express the degree of pain they may be truly experiencing. Please keep us updated!
Thanks, Tony. We had some Bute, pain medicine for horses, which I gave to him. It's a horrendous injury! We've had horses needing vet attention over the years but have never seen anything like this, just terrible :( poor buddy. Thank God my husband was home, the trailer hadn't been used for a while and we had several issues with it, then..get ready to load up old Casey and my daughter hears the rear tire is leaking air! Tim gets the tire changed and Casey, who we've never had a problem with loading in a trailer, WON'T load! That took almost an hour. Anyways, I didn't have to go, Tim drove and Katie sat shotgun. I'll let you know more after they drop him off, the vet's an hour away.

Dianne - I am so sorry that your SAD is kicking in. It stinks that you are unable to use the light therapy. Hopefully the medication will help.
Mare - oh no, poor Casey! I can't even imagine!!! I feel for all of you!
Hey Mare. Poor Casey has to be dealing with unimaginable agony... I sure don't blame him for not wanting to load! I'm glad you finally got him in and I absolutely hope the vet can help him somehow :'(
Oh my! When it rains it pours. I sure hope your medication does the trick Dianne.
Hope Casey is recovering Mare, how sad that he got hurt just being a horse. Poor guy :(.
I can't even imagine the pain he's going through! He's at the vet, and his eye has to be removed :(. He will be in far less pain once the eye is out so we're thankful he's where he's at.
Sorry, seems I've high jacked this post..everyone please continue to continue :)
Oh! On a high note! I let little dove, Lou, go this morning in a beautiful area with lots of wild doves and she FLEW really well!

Mare I am so sorry you are dealing with this injury to a horse. I am praying for recovery from this injury. Good thing you have pain med on hand.
Thanks, Dianne, he's at the vet where I'm sure he's being well taken care of :)

Any updates on the horse?
Hi, Maddy! Nice to see you around :). We expect photos of your projects, too!! Dianne, Casey had his surgery, yesterday, and is on his way home with Tim and Katie. Kate just called and said he was looking pretty ugly, was hard to load, again, but alive and well. The vet sent more Bute home with him. I almost hate to ask..do you guys want a pic..?..
Mare,
Good to hear he is alive and well. Um, I'll pass on the pic till he has healed. It would be hard to see him in this state, but that's just me. Squeamish...
Yes Maddy,
Pics of your projects when you can would be great. You do nice work from what you have shown us thus far :).
They are home and Casey's eye socket is closed and swollen. I'm with you Alice, let's wait for him to heal.

I almost hate to ask..do you guys want a pic..?..No, I don't think we need that. Thanks for asking, though.
You guys are no fun!! Just kidding :).
Let's get on with topic at hand. Today was my first day Christmas shopping. Not shopping for gifts, exactly, shopping for ingredients for cookies to give as gifts, wrap paper, Christmas cards, etc...Holy Moly! I couldn't believe what 200 bucks gets you!! sadly..not everything you were hoping for, I had to put stuff back..

Lol Mare. Ok, I'll play. :)
Jef is on a business trip so I was in charge of morning stuff with the kids. They don't like the way I make breakfast and my son doesn't trust me to make his sandwich for lunch. But we managed breakfast and I gave my son money for lunch, apparently me making anything is too much of a risk. Lol
Then ran to get my mom and go shopping for a bit. Picked up the kids from school early (when dad is away the mice want to play) and took them to Friendlys. Came home and lit a fire while trying to finish a blanket I am crocheting for my mom. That about sums it up. Now we are all watching the office on Netflix. My daughter is obsessed and has been binge watching.
Oooo..binge watching's the best! What pattern are you crocheting, Kendra? My mom taught me to crochet when I was very young, love it! I've taught my daughter and her cousins and friends, such a beautiful craft. My youngest son, 22 yrs. old, actually taught himself how to KNIT! Yeah! He googled it, went to the craft store and bought yarn and needles and is making beanies! This is my nutty kid, the one that starts med school next July. Friendlys, restaurant? Sounds like what we might have here in Cali, ours is called Chili's.

No pattern Mare. I just do single stitch for all our blankets. I tried learning other stitches years ago but I kept messing up. ;) I took a break but then my mom taught Ashie to knit & Ashie wanted me to do a project as well. Now I have orders for blankets from everyone but Jef. Good for your son, that is awesome! Not surprised that someone with the drive to go to med school could teach themselves to knit. You must be brimming with pride, you have great kids.
Yes, Friendly is a restaurant. It is a chain but not like chili's, which I love for lunch! Chili's has the best salad and soup with chips lunch. Friendly's is ice cream and they serve sandwiches, salads etc. I think besides ice cream they are best known for their super slow service. Every one I have been to is the same....SLOW. Jef hates the wait and eating junk so we go when he's not around. Ash just told Jef we went when he called. As soon as she hung up my son gave her a long lecture on not telling Daddy when Mom takes them for special things or else Daddy will put the kibosh on it. ;)
Dang, that Jef! I agree with your son, some things are better off left unsaid :). We are super proud of our Wyatt, all of our three kids, actually, they are a great bunch of humans. Wyatt is a mystery to us, though, he graduated this past June from UCDAVIS, with honors. He majored in genetics with a minor in Chicana/Chicano studies. He's thinking he wants to be an OBGYN. I can't wait to hear his stories of med school! (I was a huge binge watcher of Greys Anatomy:) )

Mare so sorry to hear about your daughters horse.......poor thing. Please keep us posted with its progress. I hope the vet was able to take care of the horse and it is doing better. It will be a real adjustment for the poor thing. Prayers and hugs here.
Thanks, Ron. We still have Casey penned in the round corral and all he does is pace :(. I know he'd like to be back with his pasture buddy but we're afraid to cut him loose just yet, it will still be a while. My daughter suggested bringing Luna, other horse, into hang out with Casey but being blind on one side I'm afraid he'd get hurt by her, she's kicky and a real "b" word, at feeding time.

Hey guys, I've been out of the loop for quite a while. I had to make a couple of trips to the west coast, working, fixing the roof and some other things that needed to be done around this house. Winter is the time to do things in Florida (not so hot). Believe me, you don't want to be in the attic in August. I did ride in the Christmas parade in St. Augustine and that was fun. There was about 20 of us with our equine friends.
Mare, sorry to hear about your daughter's horse, that really sucks. Poor old man, that must hurt really bad. I'm sure he will mend just fine and learn to get along without his sight in one eye. I was going to say I'll show you my pics if you show me yours but I don't think anyone else wants to see. A two yr. old filly at the farm ran straight through a four board fence and you know what that does. She'll be fine though. Nothing life altering, but her knew knickname is the velveteen rabbit.
Clover, Lilliput, and Poet are doing great. Lilliput went on a feather pulling spree one night. It was weird, just that one night but she ripped out a bunch. I came in the room in the morning to find a pile of chest feathers all over the floor. I think it might have been because I forgot to turn the computer monitor off and the swirling light freaked her out. She hasn't done it since then. Poet is learning new words and sounds. Her latest thing is making a fart sound and then says phew! Compliments of my niece.
Diane, sorry to hear about your troubles. My mother gets the same thing. She lives in MN. but goes to the desert every winter now and she says that taking extra vitamin D helps her.
Hey Maddy, Glad to hear that you've been keeping busy with your art. I would love to see some of it. Have you been back to taking riding lessons lately?
Well, I guess that's all that's been going on around these parts. I will try to make an effort to keep connected. I've been kind of purposely staying off the computer lately because once I get on, I fall down rabbit holes and it sucks up a lot of time where I can be getting stuff done. But it's been really nice to hear what everyone has been up to.
Hi, Lori! That's awesome you rode in a parade, sounds like a lot of fun :). When my daughter was younger, she road in several hometown parades, I made her costumes. One of her first horses was this beautiful, spunky, little Arabian named Quessa. Katie and I made the whole Arabian Knights/I Dream of Genie outfit for her and her horse, so much fun! She loved riding bareback and the next year she and her Quarter Horse Paint (happens to be our poor Casey), went with a hunter/gatherer Indian theme, that was my favorite. She set her hands in finger paint and made handprints on Casey's haunches,,oh, the memories :).
Sounds like all is well in your world. Has Lilliput still quit picking? Sassy is real nesty right now and has started to pick a little bit, not as bad as she has done in the past but she has been beautifully feathered for quite awhile until just recently.

Hey guys. Just stopping by to say that I'm not dead! Just busy as all get-out. Last week was finals week, and the week before that wasn't much slower as far as school work goes, and I've had a viral chest cold (I haven't been to a doctor yet, but...honestly it feels a little like bronchitis, just not a bad case of it, so I'm not calling it bronchitis, but...it's not fun. I was out of work today because of it) for a few days. Work has been absolutely horrible. We had two people out last week, one with the flu and one who's relative died, and we were short-staffed to begin with before that. Supposedly this week we're getting some reinforcements, but I have no idea how that's going to go. We finally got a manager but he doesn't start being a manager until mid January, so I'm still doing the work of three people, trying to get things organized, and trying to undo the damage that had been done to the café before I got there from years of bad luck. Since it's the busiest season of the year for us, it's really slow going, and I really don't know how I'm going to get it all done before January (if I ever get it done), because I know the new manager will definitely need my help and support. I could rant on and on about that, and how worried I am about the situation (he's not been a café manager before nor does he have good control over his emotions, plus he's got preconceived notions about some of my staff because he worked with a lot of the bad seeds that used to work in café before I got there and they're not all accurate notions), but...I think that's better left for a different thread. Needless to say, I'm a little stressed out, between the manager thing (not having one right now and worrying about the one they're bringing in), the Christmas shopping season making me want to cry, being sick, and having my staff drop like flies for a week, I'm kind of shell-shocked. So I'll poke around here when I can, but I hardly have a moment to myself right now. I can't wait until December 24th though! I have Christmas Eve off as well as Christmas Day, so I'm going to spend two days in a row relaxing, baking, and letting myself enjoy Christmas for once.
An Jen,
I sure hope things work out quicker for ya! Due take those days and find some time to enjoy, we all need to remember what the season is really about. And don't forget to take care of yourself too.

Yes, Mare. She hasn't picked anymore. It's like she went on a one night spree. That's why I'm thinking it was the computer monitor being left on. I usually turn it off. When it's on and unattended it will go dark but has these swirly things going around. Although, I have been being a bad mom and keeping them up later than usual so I stopped that too.
Yeah, the parade was fun. They didn't want us to costume up too much. The lady in charge wanted everyone to look similar so it was jeans, a white shirt and cowboy hat. I did put pretty red and green ribbons in Laelas mane and it looked nice.
My friend on the left and me on the right. That little girl in the background was adorable and I think her horse is made of gold.
