I like starting and reading happy postings. So here goes__ What is the kindest thing anyone ever did for you? What are some of the kind things you have done for others?

The kindest thing? That's really hard to say for me. I think the collective of every small kind gesture I've experienced is more important to me than any one single instance of kindness. I'll tell you, though, one thing I certainly appreciate are friendly store clerks and checkers. And I as well appreciate friendly drivers... such as those who make effort to stop and hold traffic in order to allow someone to enter the traffic flow. And thinking about it a bit more, I have to say that I've experienced (or witnessed) a multitude of similar unselfish acts in life... each of which I truly value :)

This Thanksgiving I was invited to friend's home and had a wonderful time. For me, being single, turkey day and Xmas are always hard to get through. In years past I have even been willing to work those days which to me was better than being by myself.
This year was great because they are bird people. When I got there, 3 of the Macaws were excited but I just let them settle down and see that I was not a bad person or anything. In the afternoon I went over to the java stand Sam was on and started talking to him and he was really interested in me I thought. He climbed from one end of the stand, onto the boing, onto the other side and so I offered my arm which he willingly stepped up onto. We all thought this was good but as I was walking (slowly) over to the chair to give him some attention he decide he wanted my right index finger. Seeing that I have grown attached to that finger I automatically started doing the earthquake but that little snot was not letting go. After 3 earthquakes where I dropped my arm he finally let go the little stinker. He nailed it on the first joint so it is a reminder when I am bending that finger.
None of us are sure what triggered it but I just look at it as part and parcel in having/handling any Mac.
It was really nice spending some time with bird people and I appreciated my visit with them.
Since I like to be treated with kindness I try to do my best everyday to be kind to those I meet as well as those I know. Sometimes when I encounter someone who just doesn't respond with kindness, I try not to take offense and let it make me feel down, I tell them to have a great day and move on.
Wow, that's a loaded question! The worse thing that anyone's done to me, ends up being the best thing..and that was,,dumping her bird Amigo on me. The kindest thing I've done, was to not force her into taking him back. He would have been back in a small cage hating his life. I'm actually thankful for every day, sometimes I need to remind myself but I am loved and feel love, I try and share this with all I meet.

Interesting question. It is really hard to pinpoint specific moments. I have the rule that we treat others the way we want to be treated. It is one of the only firm rules I have for my kids. If you do this, you are sure to always be kind.
Also, if others are in a difficult situation and I am able to help I will. Be it emotionally, financially or volunteering my time to help. For me it is super important for my children to learn this as well. Kindness breeds kindness. If you smile at a stranger, chances are they may smile back. We all need to feel special and appreciated and loved. What is the point of life otherwise???

What started me with this question was a person I do not even know sending Chipper and Daisy a box from MSBS with lots of goodies. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about it. She said she wanted to send Chipper a toy and it ended up being much more than a toy. I am just not used to kindnesses like this. I have thanked her in writing and made the gift public on the forum but worry that this is not enough!

How awesome is that???
Thanking her is enough.
In my experience, people do things like that because they truly want to. What a great suprise!!!

I've had a lot of kindness bestowed upon me throughout my life, I count myself as very blessed, and it's taught me a lot. Unfortunately, I can also be too kind, and have had my kindness taken advantage of, but that's a story for another thread. Suffice it to say, I have friends who I consider family moreso than most of my blood relations, I've had friends offer to take me in when I wasn't sure I had a place to sleep, and I've taken in friends before when the "stuff" hits the fan for them, too (picture five humans, a large shepherd-sized dog, and three birds crammed into a one-bedroom apartment!). Sometimes the best kindness is to just hear that you're doing a better job than you think, so thank your retail workers often, it can brighten their day :)
